This is a success story, it was bound to happen at some point, but posting this as it may help others.

my 2004 4.4 vogue has had nothing happening as far as the transfer box is concerned since i got it so when the switch was moved, nothing, no message so tried putting a fuse in 37 to engage the towing mode and this worked fine so this pointed to the switch in my mind.

as the switch is located next to the cup holder i guessed, by the sticky coffee tide mark around the hole where the cup holder / ash tray sits, that at some point a spillage could have occurred and this would run straight under the panel where the transfer box and hill decent switch panel is.

myself and loony removed the panel which pretty much just pulls upwards along with the gear knob and disconnected the 4 multiplugs from under the panel which enables the panel to be removed.

we then undid the 5 small screws, one is hidden by a label to reveal the circuit board shown on the pic and much as we thought, the whole thing was a sticky mess.

underside of switch is very simple

he cleaned it with a toothbrush and loads of WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner - 400ml Aerosol | eBay put it back in and it works perfectly now, at last a cheap fix rather than another £240 for a new complete panel...:D

Top job....again another great result....:D

we are getting there.. loony also repaired the non functioning handbrake warning light while he was there as the wire had come off the bottom of the switch. i didnt see exactly what he did but once he got to the switch by moving the centre console the wire was easy to re attach from what i can tell

And, he repaired the foglight wires as i think they had become trapped by the front bumper being replaced at some point with the foglights fitted to the bumper which traps the wires against the iron, whereas if you fit them after you can guide the upright plug connector through the back of the hole in the iron.

AND...he adjusted my non functioning handbrake , that was straight out the manual by clicking the adjusters round and then backing off.......

he could start his own business as he is a sh*t hot mechanic but he hates working on cars;)
