hi I have a range rover l322 4.4. 2004 with LPG. I have recently had problems starting the car in petrol.

My garage changed the fuel filter and fuel pump and the car was fine for 1 week.

However, the problem came back again after these repairs. Had the AA out. Car would start on LPG but not petrol. AA checked everything and recommended taking the car back the garage.

Took the car in and when it got there the car started on petrol. Obviously an intermittent problem. I left the car with them. They checked wiring to the new pump and found no faults. When they started the car it did so first time on both petrol and gas.

I have had the car back now for 1 day and it seems to be ok.

I have bought an Autel Maxisan diagnostic reader and the code P0005 is coming up.

This code is Fuel Shutoff Valve. A control circuit open.

Please can someone tell me what this means and is this related to my intermittent petrol starting problem?

Many thanks

BR

Is your scanner - LR compatible??

Whilst the Engine ECU is OBDII Compliant - i.e. it talks the EOBD language, oftentimes a generic scanner will put up spurious codes...

Just Gooooooooooooogled P0005....

The P0005 is an OBDII generic code, but almost none of the vehicle manufactures use it. If you are getting this code, make sure you are using the correct OBDII code scanner for your vehicle's make and model.

Gonna try and find the LR DTC Tables and see if this code is there!

From what I can see LR DTC's start at P0101...but P0005 is a generic P code, i.e. it applies to all manufacturers - it is just down to the manufacturer to decide if to use it or not. (P0XXX are laid out in the EOBD/JAE/SAE rules - P1XXX are manufacturer specific codes)

The L322 is a complex beast, I would be tempted to try a LR dedicated unit (Faultmate, Hawkeye, Lynx, Snapon Solus, All Comms et al) and confirm the code.
