I'm not being an arse just saying that you need answers as sometimes these feckers are just out to screw us over. I got pulled on the A5 in London about 5 months ago around lunchtime by the plod for using a phone. I wasnt!! I was putting a diary down that fell from my visor the fact that the van driver behind had no seat belt on and was hastily trying to put it on was ignored Feck wits as he drove past plod looked dodgy aswell doubt it was insured or taxed an old beat up rusty van.
 
Well the only other way around me making up an axle is to lift the rear axle up on the spring plates by an inch or two max, not altering the angle of the axle itself just raising it which will bring it into plane with the transfer box.

Wouldn't be hard to do just using some 2" box then put slightly larger wheels on the rear to make up the difference. However this seems like a bodge to me and doesn't really appeal so much.

Plus at £250 for a 3.54 limited slip Jag axle its extremely tempting. Other option is to drop the gearbox and engine 2" but that brings the handbrake drum a little too far outside the chassis rails for my liking and puts the sump in a rather dangerous spot above the axle!

Only thing I'd be wondering about is the engine swap…..obviously I welded in new mounts and cut the old ones off so that would be a modification if the tester was very arsey!

Will see what happens though and hopefully I wont get pulled, plod don't seem to care too much here. I drove my discovery round last year on a straight through exhaust that was a bit loud and they didn't say a thing nor do they seem to have any intention to stop people whose trailer lights aren't working etc

Most of the time I see them working is at night just making sure the rowdy tourists are kept in line
 
Drop the gearbox down it makes sense!! If your worried I'm sure you can fit a RRC LT95 handbrake assy or at least make it work much smaller dia but deeper drum.

I would but I cant

If I drop the gearbox I have to drop the engine too! If not the front end of the transfer box will be sitting at a slightly upward angle because of the engine being raised up in order to make sure I can get access to the crank and keep the sump safe from the rear axle.

I've had to move the whole assembly forward to within about 2" of the front crossmember in order to get the R380 in there properly. Basically this build is throwing spanners in the works at every chance it gets!

I do have an LT95 box with handbrake on it sat by the side of the series, drum looks pretty similar
 
On Springs has anyone re drilled furthur back in a set of old springs to bring the axle rearward say 2 inches?? Then used wedges to realign the propshaft at 90 degrees? Not sure If I've ever seen it.

Sounds a bit of an odd way to do it, think the axle would be a better way to go!

Purely as it'll cost me a bit to get them drilled at a local machine shop
 
Last owner put them on, I've already broken two off just moving it about……


Putting on some nice angled ones I'm making up, will look right and I kinda have to now seeing as the ****s drilled so many holes in the wings :doh: he obviously didn't measure up and had to drill twice for the rivets

Springs are not that hard I have drilled them with cheapo drills and used them for all sorts mainly wedges and large thick washers.
 
Right, handbrake has been removed, welded up crossmember and tomorrow I'm going to put in the seat box and rivet in the bulkhead properly and if I can find some fuel pipe I'll even plumb in the swirl pot and possibly the radiator too!
 
Just bought £122 worth of fuel pipe and fittings…….5M of AN10 hose (armoured version), 4 x 10mm brass straight connectors, 1 x 90* AN10 connector and 2 x straight AN10 connectors and 1 x 10mm brass Y splitter

Should be here thursday or friday so I can fit the swirl pot in properly!
