You have to be very old and remember when CBs were popular (and illegal) like me

It is a good idea though :D

But you only know about it because your grandad told you tales of CBs and out running smoky, right? ;)

The decline of Cb radio is understandable, when it was illegal , the sets had a really decent range, and with sideband, a burner , and a suitable aerial , you could get Pittsburg , Italy , or even Denmark , with skip, as it goes in about 600mile "bounces".
Then they brought in a legal system , but changed the frequency's, and went from AM to FM , which did bad things to range. As mentioned previous , loads of kids got one for christmas , as the new setup arrived just before, there was so much rubbish on the channels, even folks playing music , that they were just about a waste of time for travel communication. You dont get many trucks with CB now only usually ones that run in groups, or wide loads etc. So laning eg convoy working is about all they are used for , plus with mobile phones that a lot seem to have grafted to their ear, its not needed to communicate locally or with home. JMHO

Why two? And i like your style haha

Are you thick :rolleyes: Its so he can talk to himself cause no one else will :p:p:p:D:D:D:D:D

I can't believe anyone on here is old... they are on here for starters. Old people don't do intartubes. Same with wimminz.

The Internet, where men are men, women are men and children are the FBI.

I is old and a wimminz :p Kind of spoils your theory really :D:D

I is on here, and I is an old gimmer and proud of it!

When you youngsters gets to my age, you will just be old and knackered!

I can still do things that you young whippersnappers can only dream of ... ;) ;) ;)

You got 40 channels to pick from, and there is no such thing as a 'dedicated channel' for anyone!

Basically, the CB is a public two-way communications service, and anyone can legally use any channel for their radio traffic.

Thought there was an emergency channel

Who needs a cb they are old hat when you have voxer and its free instant and can be users in any country .

Just purchased a rotel 240, had one way back in the 80's
I think its a good idea, most 4x4s that go laning have them fitted, cos phone signal in the middle of nowhere can be a bit hit and miss at times. and if i'm on the cliffs at dover i get connected to the french network which costs a fortune to use.

Most peeps in this ****ry speak normal on CB apart from a few key numbers.
Now if ya decide t go pro (and anal) try Ham radio ffs.I've used it on the old am rigs but never passed the exams cos i got bored ****less trying to memorise morse code,It's more effective than Chinese water torture:eek:

No morse in the Ham radio operators examination any more.

You're a little bit wrong there Redhand, according to Ofcom, for a full class A amateur licence a morse "assessment" at 5 words per minute is still required. It used to be full 12 wpm plain language test when I did mine, but I was training to be a merchant navy sparks back then, doing 20 wpm.

For all other amateur licence types morse isn't a requirement.

Errm that's only if you want the Advanced Licence. Beginners and intermediate there is no Morse.
