I bought a new solenoid from goodwinch and its seems to be playing up, its winching in perfectly but wont winch out, i can hear the solenoid clicking when i press the button, it does work intermittently on the out winch but mostly just clicking, is it likely to be the solenoid as its brand new ?

Why not give David at Goodwinch a call, he will probably be able to tell you straight away and if it was something to do with his kit he would swop for you.

You have connected the wires up correctly have you??

Yes when i first fitted it it worked fine

Its the brushes, armature or more likley dodgy wire. Remove and clean all connections and it will work. A solonoid usually fails to work completly i.e make contact "click" or it welds itself on no control. If it works as its operated then its either a loose wire, dirty armature and knackared brushes. We used to suffer similar issues on rc cars and to try and advance the motor timing we would run the motor in clean water for an hour to bed in the new brushes then when you went forward it would be slightly more powerful. that snippet is of no use to you and your broken winch im afraid tho
