Key fob/eka problem Discovery 2 (1999 TD5)

After reading endless forums I still have not found a solution to my problem.

I can open the disco 2 with the key but the alarm goes off and the truck will not 'de-immobilise'.

My disco 2 key fob would not 'de-immobilise' or open the truck.
I changed the battery in the fob and followed the 1001 ways to resynch to the ecu. The red led is functioning but it still doesn't work.

I used the EKA code successfully. Got into the truck and got it started.

My problem is that I can turn off the engine but as soon as I lock the drivers door (with the key) i am back to square one and the only way to unlock the truck and get it started is with the eka code. Most of the forums I have read state that once the eka code is used the immobiliser will not activate until the key fob is used again.

Do I need a working key fob to solve this? I thought once the eka code was used this was not the case?

Obviously this is incredibly frustrating and after trying everything suggested on a load of forums I am out of ideas.

If any one can shed some light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

It's ok to remobilise your engine with the EKA code but as soon as you lock the vehicle that it will immobilise the engine so back to square one as u say, the EKA is just a 'get u home' function and then u sort out the problem.

Opening the door with a key will always activate the alarm, that's normal.

To unlock and remobilise you will need a fully functioning fob, also that's the same with the receiver which is above the rear head lining, so if either item is not working u have a problem.

Have u tried your spare key?
 
Could be the remote sensor in the roof . Mine did the same thing after getting water in it from a leaky rear sunroof . Took it out left it to dry in the house then refitted it the next day . All working again .

i always hate to contradict you believe me...another friendly polemic i hope;) ... i can't agree with always and with that's normal.... cos it's all about the setting! (i say) ... for example mine would'nt do that cos it's well set ;)

Just had EXACTLY the same issue!!!! In my case it was the receiver in the headlining, bought a replacement at £30, and fitted it, BUT when I dropped the headlining I found the earth tag had never been connected! I think my original unit was fine it was just a poor earth!!

Drop the rear part of the headlining and make sure the receiver unit has a good earth. Mine had limited range before, I can now unlock it from a very good distance!!! I think LR issued a bulletin about this but cant find it...............

OK Count....... as far as I know all D2s that left the factory for the UK market opening the door with a key will always activate the alarm, that's normal and there was no option offered.
Also due to not having any other information I always assume the vehicle has the default Factory Option as supplied to the UK showrooms.

i can't argue with that m8... i accept the explanation for "always" ... but i'll never accept that it's "normal" to be this way ;):D:5bcheers2:

That used to work with ours, but if you have to do this its a sign something is wrong. Best to sort out the key/radio receiver problem before the vehicle is totally disabled (as ours was).........
 
Just had this same problem. Imobilised and alarm sounding. I was recovered by the AA to the nearest Land Rover main dealer and they found that it was an earth connection fault. They made connections good and so far has solved the problem
 
Thanks very much for the speedy and helpful replies! Very Refreshing after reading so much and gaining so little! I will take a look at the receiver on the weekend and post an update. Thank again for shedding some more light on a vey frustrating problem.
 
Have to say I was really concerned about having the car totally disabled but was pleased it was such a simple fix - good luck.
 
Hope this post will help TD5 series 2 owners that are having problems with the key remote not unlocking the doors, I was only able to unlock the car by putting the key into the door and unlocking it, but that made the alarm go off when i opened the door, had to use the E K A code to dis arm the system and get the engine started, had the local LR garage to have a look and they could not find anything wrong with it, because it started working again when they went to start it, so had the car back and it was fine for two days and then it started to play up again, so I had a look my self, checked the BCU and it all looked good, and the receiver that is in the roof lining as well, trace the fault to a broken wire in the loom that comes from the receiver to the BCU unit that is behind the passengers glove box, spliced a new wire from the receiver to the BCU, problem sorted, hope this might help some of you as it drove me mad, but I feel great that I found the fault, good luck. Today I had a problem of being able to open the drivers door but the Alarm goes off, place in the ignition will not start the car [unable to turn off immobiliser]
this was resolved as the key fob was faulty, thought new battery will solve it, no, old battery fine.
Cure, used a flat blade Screwdriver across the contacts in the Key Fob / this disabled the immobiliser & the Alarm.
Then car started then on my way home.

Been in touch with Matford Landrover Exeter, who explained,buying a second hand Key Fob is not possible to reprogramme them, wondering if this was a ploy to get business. Replacement and Reprogramming cost: £218.00
