Hi every one,
I am thinking of taking the one-piece side windows out of my 110 CSW. I am thinking of getting some 5mm chequer plate sheet cut about ½” bigger than the opening all around, with car door rubber seal on the edge to for a water tight seal. I was then going to mount them with stainless steel hinges and just use some locks on the top/bottom to lock them shut. I also thought about welding some steal box along the top and bottom of the inside of the panels to stop them flexing.
I am hoping if I have them hung at the top they would work like the side access doors on some pickup top boxes and if I hung them at the bottom and used chain restraints they might make a serving shelf like hatch.
I would take photos as I go. I would finish them off by painting them to match the rest of the landy.

What do you all think? Has anyone done this already or got any other suggestions?

if you do make a door out of that plate.make a door frame out of ally square tube as well.dont use just the plate as it will flex to easily.

the way I would go about it is find a caravan locker door the same size as the oening (or as near as you can) and use that.
door frame and frame for door panel in one, already all the work done for watertightness, provision for locking, and you stick whatever panel you want in it.

what do you reckon the chance would be of finding one the correct size though???

There was a set of commercial ones on fleabay a while ago - keep an eye out.

I put blanks in mine which cost £20.

Those locker doors are identical to the ones fitted to many spec lift breakdown trucks, right down to the hinges and locks.

you could try approaching one of the recovery truck manufacturers and asking telling em what size you want and asking for a price.

If you do take this option FFS add additional locks cos those uns are rubbish. An enfield bolt on each will work wonders.;)

Knew you would have the answer;)

Another cheap alternative is to buy a couple of gym type lockers off eBay. They come in various sizes. You could either just use the doors or mount the whole thing in the gaps therefore preventing access to the entire of the inside of your landy. You can usually pick em up for between £10 and £50 each.
