could anyone point me in the direction of a decent workshop manual for my p38?
i have the rave one and to be honest it makes a Haynes:confused: look good! i have to remove the timing chain cover as the wood ruff key has sheared following a pulley replacement i have undone all the bolts i can see and with the limited info from rave but it is stuck fast on the right hand side as you look at it any guidance would be most welcome as i need the tank back on the road!

well firstly i am a numpty for not looking there but my version only has the petrol engines so back to square one !
so does anyone have the diesel version

Have to say all the RAVE Versions I have seen/used never had a Diesel Overhaul manual...you had to use the Service and Operations bumpf....

There is more than enough info in RAVE for the diesel. Unless you are an Haynes one spanner man. :D:D

well if that is the case why will this timing cover not come off and where is the info on locking the the cams up before taking the tension off? dont get me wrong i am all for progress but at least my book manuals for citroen where understandable i even changed a pug 405 engine using a xantia manual so i am not totally stupid just cant seem to navigate these cd thingys:eek:

Haynes one spanner?
Once took nearly two hours to change a tail light bulb on a A2 and that was a one spanner lol
Had to take the full light out and all the trim hideing the bolts then some muppit had been there before with a pair of molegrips on the plastic nuts

If it's a diesel you are playing with make sure you get ALL the bolts some are hidden in deep recesses. There are 15 bolts to remove in front cover face alone. Did you get the one in the hole just to left and below tensioner pulley pivot? If it's a diesel all the info you need is in, BMW diesel engine > repair, in RAVE. Look at the various sections. Front cover. Timing chains Etc.
