hi Freelander's friends for a while I have been using shell but the shell station was shut for revamp I then filled at Morrison's I did not notice much difference, and when the shell reopened and I went back I noticed NO difference. then I was nearly out of fuel and was at the daughters ,and son in-law said use the Esso up the road so I went and that week I thought how smooth the car is running , so I went and filled up again last week , and I noticed on the pump it said improved diesel. and this week the car seems a bit more spritely and it is smoother because the wife says so . question is have you tried it yet I would like to know your thoughts.

I always use BP but recently filled up with Esso as I was low. I thought it was just me in a good mood, but it did feel as though the engine was a little more responsive.
I have gone back to BP but have to put more diesel in today so will try it again.

my normal garage was Total and has changed to Esso and i think my Freelander feels so much better and the best bit is its also the cheapest in town at Esso

I haven't tried this new Esso yet - isn't it called Esso Supreme.

Seems to be getting a lot of favourable comments.

Apparently it's got the highest Cetane level of all European fuel.

What is the extra ingredient? More Ethanol?

Or is it extra Nitrogen like the new Shell V-Power Nitro?

I saw a load of adverts for the new Esso in Germany last month - lots of nostalgia type stuff - Esso 'Extra' Supreme and so on. Didn't see any Tiger's Tails to tie around the filler cap though.

Quite a few years ago, a colleague and myself had to use the Company Austin, A60,Van which was used by an Engineer who always kept it in pristine condition.
At the time, Texaco were running a "Get out of town" promo. where they gave stickers away which simulated bullet holes. We were working for the week in the Home Counties and decided to cover all windows except the windscreen with them. Got back to the Works on the Friday and parked it up in a remote corner of the car park. About an hour later Sid stormed into the canteen with a face that was forty shades of purple :fighting:. Don't know what adhesive was on the stickers but it took him about two weeks to remove them and get the glass shining like crystal again...We didn't get to use his van again !!

A nitrogen can be added to diesel and B what use it would be as it's innert.

Shell are doing it too

In initial tests of Shell's nitrogen-enriched diesel fuel, the oil giant's new fuel was shown to reduce consumption by up to 4.8 percent in heavy-duty vehicles. Shell's testing indicates that heavy-duty trucks, fueled with the nitrogen-enriched diesel and operating under severe stop-and-go city conditions, consumed 4.8 percent less fuel than trucks filled with conventional ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD). In addition, tests conducted under long-haul highway conditions have shown that the nitrogen-enriched diesel reduces fuel consumption by 1.3 percent when compared to ULSD.

The nitrogen additive package helps prevent and remove deposits that form on fuel injectors— deposits that impair the flow of diesel through the injector, thus resulting in increased fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, according to Ralph Cherrillo, fuels technology advisor for Shell Global Solutions. He also notes that this nitrogen-enriched diesel contains other lubricity agents (as per required specifications) to help prevent fuel pump and injector wear and damage; “anti-gel agents” are added for colder winter climates when needed.
