I've done quite a bit of reading and have taken the plunge on a set of 22's for the summer and will keep my hurricanes for winter and off road.

What size tyres are you guys running on your 22's?

Thanks in advance :)

If you have say 265-70-18s fitted you would need 265-50-22s to get approximately the same rolling radius. Car will drive like a pig and will rattle your fillings out. But that's what you get for having gangsta wheels on. Good for posing though and your bitches will love them. Innit. Will your next question be? "What pressure do i put in my 265-50-22 tyres"?

Ouch! Put your claws away boys, you might hurt yourself! ;)

Like I said, summer wheels. I'm taking the time to sort my 38a out properly and give it new paint and whatever else it needs. I got the wheels cheap so I'm giving it a go.

What is it with people who run 18's saying 22's will shake you to bits and people with 22's saying its a firmer ride, but handling is better on the road. The only issue I can see is if the suspension components are worn the 22's will just amplify the problem. So what? Replacing the components obviously needs doing anyway but the 18's are masking the problem.

If someone here has had a 38a from new and knows how they handled from new in stock configuration I'd be very interested to see what their report is of that ride. And if anyone has done that AND has fitted 20's or 22's I'd be even more interested.

I can tell from your comments that you assume I'm a b*** end who has just bought a 38a to ruin and pose in. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I've being the trade for a decade and dearly love these trucks, also having owned various Rovers in my time including the P6's and other Buick engined cars. I just want to make it appear a little newer. The later RR's are sold with 22's so what's the problem?!

If it all goes Pete Tong ill take them off and sell them. Simples!

Tyre wall flex is the obvious difference plus low profile tyres run at higher pressures than stock tyres. That is why they rattle. The later ones have FIS not live axles, that is the difference.

Got it!! Thanks for the info!

I'm probably looking at 285/35 or 295/35 to keep the rolling radius almost the same.

It's all in the future anyway, there are plenty of other things to keep me going before I worry about these wheels. Just glad I got them cheaper than the usual outrageous price!!

:)

There are plenty of threads on the dangerous tramlining that happens with wheel diameters bigger than 18" on the P38. Hopefully the new MOT will put and end to this sort of thing.

Wait til you find out how much the tyres are. :D:D

As you have two whacking great live axles hopping around by going for ultra low profile tyres you are increasing the possibility of the tyre losing contact with the road over rough or ripply surfaces - especially as they have to be run at increased tyre pressures. Sudden breakaway on a wet roundabout for instance will become more likely.

On the subject on crashing because of bling wheels, I'll never forget an incident of my "yoof" where I took my boring looking Mk1 5 door golf 1.5GL, built a 170bhp full race engine (with a quiet Sebring exhaust system) uprated suspension (but only slightly lowered) and ultra grippy (in their day) Yokohama A008 tyres, which I used to drag race and sprint. I pulled up next to a slammed MKII Golf GTi 16V at the lights, the car was lowered so much the camber of the wheels was out of kilter, I blew him away off the light which obviously wound him up as he spent the next few miles trying to overtake (no chance!) then we hit a twisty A-road which I knew well, I did my usual (for this road) sit at 80 and don't bother braking for the corners, by corner #3 I saw a Golf rolling into a field in my rear view mirror - what a knob. Moral of the story - if you're going to modify your car - do it properly!

He He, in my yoof, we had an old square shape Anglia van. It was fitted with a big V8, 3 speed auto, Jag diff IFS and some very wide rear tyres plus uprated brakes. Looked totally normal from the rear, used to love the traffic light GP, left foot on the brake, revs up to torque convertor stall just before the lights changed, slip fott of brake and leave 50 metres of rubber. Lots of fun.

Again thanks for the words of wisdom!! Well like I said, ill put good rubber on them (used to the prices of big tyres as my Ram had stock 22" rims) and see how it goes. I don't drive like a maniac and I'm not off roading with them on so ill take a constructive look at how the truck performs with them on. If its at all hairy or unstable, ill take them off.

I'm guessing the tramlining is on the motorway where the trucks have collapsed the Tarmac?

No, it's everywhere, camber changes ridges etc.

Marvellous

Right, well thanks for the advice. I'll see how it goes but it sounds like I'll be selling them on fairly smartish!
