Took my front brakes off to replace them - who knew they were different to the rear Anyway, I only had rear pads. But I cleaned them up and cleaned the stiff callipers and put them all back together again. I need new disks, they have a massive lip.

Put some Wynns Gold Injector treatment in. It may be snake oil, it may change the octane rating of the fuel, but I got it cheap with a trade card!

Took it for a 50 mile run on the motorway. Including the slow stop start to get to the motorway and to get back home again, I got just under 26 mpg. Mainly 28 on the motorway - topping out at 30 at one point. But dropping off as soon as I was on any sort of hill.

So there you go. Brakes? They didn't get warm this time so I think it was brakes. I think maybe I had a sticking one. It did pull under braking. Or injectors?

Its too early, I'll keep an eye on it. 50 miles is still quite a short run. But things are looking up

You don't want to be raising the octane rating of diesel Nik mate. High octane fuel resists compression ignition. Not exactly what you want in a diesel.

Put discs, pads and sliding pins on mine for £230. Ok they were Brembo but fir everything couldn't argue. Bloody good brakes too.

Check the simple stuff first? Listen to you lot? There's a list

But to be fair, I was led down the garden path by unplugging my MAP and MAF and it making no difference - and the diagnostics with their -38.88'c. I'll just ignore the complicated stuff...

Nick I meant by the brakes yesterday you said you checked and they were not binding, well you said they spin but not a lot because that they are heavy now you know don't matter how heavy they are they should spin!

Ah, ok

Yes, they turned, but when you tried to spin them, they stopped almost straight away and you could hear rubbing/scraping. Now they spin a lot more freely.

But... I think I might need new callipers as the rubbers have split and the pistons are full of dirt, grit and gunge. I cleaned them, but unless I can just get the rubbers, they've had it...

You can but the pistons will be pitted now you, can get a complete rebuild kit as well including pistons,but to be honest at £30 odd pounds a caliper its hardly worth it get new

It's dead obvious its been binding when you see the lip. The disk is almost paper thin and has a lip of a good few millimeters!! I'm surprised it passed it's last MOT it's that bad. Good job I checked
