Help with brakes please.

I have just changed my rear brake pipes after my anti roll bar joint collapsed and squashed the old ones
I purchased a Gunson Eezibleed kit,followed the instructions and ended up with major spongey brakes.
When i first pressurised up the system at 20psi, about 70cl of fluid disappeared,re-filled and waited for fluid to stop running.I then went round and bled all 4 brakes starting o/s rear,n/s rear,o/s front n/s front.
Took it for a test run........pedal travels to the floor with a little breaking at the wheels then after 3-4 pumps the pedal goes hard but with pretty much no breaking at the wheels!

Any advice please?

I use one of those ezibleed kits on mine and it works fine. I only use about 10psi and do it slowly making sure the fluid level does not drop to low in the bottle.

I use a syringe to remove the excess fluid from the reservoir when I have finished. That keeps any mess to a minimum.

The only way I've ever bled brakes is with one person on the pedal and one person on the bleed nipple. 10 pumps and lock off then 3 times up and down locking off after each stroke. Repeat until all air is expunged.

This is how i used to do it but loads of people on different sites raved about this eezibleed tool.
Both ways should give the same result should they not?
Just wondering if i still have air in the system or if there somethinge else a miss?

I use a eezi bleed that I have converted to run off a airline, thru a regulator at about 10psi. Works a treat, just make sure you don't run it out of fluid

I ran it off my spare,started at 20psi but for some reason it went flat half way through the job.Pumped it back up then went round them all again!.
Perhaps i just need to :violent:

Try again with the engine running and stamp on the brake pedal a couple of times as your bleeding each wheel, get a friend to help. Air can be hard to shift sometimes.

So you reckon doing old fashion stylee,one pumping and one under the rust bucket?

Almost all brakes will bleed by gravity

You dont need fancy brake bleeders...just a little patience. Open the bleed nipples and let it run.

That's true, but it won't move fast enough under gravity to dislodge air bubbles. The two man method might be old, it might take a while but it works, you can see the fluid coming out and you're not pressurising the reservoir or sucking air past bleed nipple threads.

I removed the back pipes a couple of days ago so the back splitter was left to drip for a few days.Reckon i pretty much drained all the fluid.
Im going to have a go with the eezi in the morning and if that dont work the wifes getting dragged out in the cold to pump the pedal.

Yes

get pressure up and release it by opening the nipple till the pedal sinks to the floor then tighten

The pedal sinks to the floor anyway,so pump a few times to get pressure up then release nipple?

it is the most positive way to bleed ,its not a good idea to let system drain you should clamp ther flexi or bung pipe ,if fluid splashes back in res you may need a new master cylinder

When i finshed the bleed i had to re move some fluid to bring it down to max level.I syphoned it with a clear bit of pipe,evry now and then it picked up what looked like tiny bits of black oil.Any idea as towhat that could be?

If this was from the master cylinder -then they are almost certainly the seals breaking up in the master cylinder -

New seals for it ... or a new cylinder ...

Is this something worth trying to fix or is it a bite the bullet type thing and replace the unit?
