Re the checking, I've gone on the opinion on my photo on the first page of this thread. As well as a local mechanic taking a quick look and saying that everything looks standard with no mods. Maybe the thermo mod for post 2000 vehicles onwards looked exactly like pre2000?

Not read whole thread, but needs to be a 2001 model year. Lots of changes at this point including cooling. My chap at LR dealer told me this and he is a good knowledgeable LR bloke.

Agree that OP should fit PRT thing. Just replaced mine, as suspected it had seized shut, which was a white one and new one is grey - no external difference.

not too much of a worry if it's fitted but if that'd happened to the original setup it would've blown the engine for sure.

there is the peace of mind that you still have a flow past the stat via the pressure relief

It's been down to here many times in the past according to its history, so that's where it'll be going again probably. No doubt they'll be funny about me supplying my own parts!

I,ve used RCV for stuff I didn't want to tackle - heater matrix change out fer one. They know more about your LR than we do, I would just explain your concerns and let them sort it - Dave is the manager from memory.

If he can't recognise a PRT and doesn't seem to understand the need or function for it, then I would be careful about assuming such things.

BTW that refers to the earlier cream coloured PRT stat number, the grey one that you have purchased is the up to date version but the hoses are the same and installation is identical.

Well OP said the vehicle had been there on many occasions - that's how I read it, so they do know more about his vehicle / work done and he cant do this work himself, so I seek to give reassurance re this inde. What else is OP to do. U could argue that if the vehicle is running fine, then leave well alone!!??

All very good points . Arguably, the car is running fine so some might say leave it be. However I think prevention is better than cure in this case and the PRT might just save him the cost of a HGF . Freelanders require a deft touch and I get confused enough about which uprated parts are the current ones and I'm not surprised that people in the trade who have dozens of makes to deal with miss things like this.

OP Just make sure they bleed it properly when they are done fitting it, and then burp any residual air out of the heater matrix bleed screw after every journey for a few days. If air is not getting into the system then it should be completely sealed very quickly and you'll be on your way !

Mines a late 2000 build registered in 07/01/2001 and hasn't got the PRT fitted but it will do when I get the head back on now the artic blast seems to have gone away.
