How many people have fitted some form of roof rack, be it custom made, home made, or shop bought? I just picked one up cheap and the mounts need customising to the roof rail mounts.

What size are you guys running as an over all? This one is 48" X 90". I was hoping to chop it down to more like 42" X 78".

Mine will fit within the width of the rails, and be underslung from them. it goes as far back as the crossrail (with the lamp brackets coming out of the other side) and as far forward as the start of the front mount capping. (this is a 3dr)

cheers.

mine goes from the front of the roof to the back in line with the rear door made it myself as i could not get what i wanted

What did you make it out of mate? This one is 1" square tube, with some 2" square mesh on the bottom. Do you know the size in inches, roughly?

How long have you had it fitted mate? How heavy is it?

:nopics:

Come on guys what do your motors look like with these rack's on them????

A picture is way better than a written description,,,:)

Is this yours mate? Modifications - Land Rover Freelander

Been searching for a while to find out who owns it.

yup, that's mine. haven't updated the site for a while. But will get round to it!!

cheers for the comments all. Its a brownchurch rack, pricey but they do come up on the bay of E. and they bolt in perfect where the roof bar attach. Loads of extra room up there for loads of stuff. Mount everything to it too. best thing I got for her.

Sweet! Are you still running all the gear in the boot? I'm after suggestions for mounting a second battery and some more substantial LEDs in the boot roof.

Mick, best thing to do is build a box in the boot at the right hand side. From this box I have then made a shelf right across the boot to give me two levels to work from. Got a roller shelf directly under that to put stuff on if im repairing something or rewiring kit. I used a maplins special clearance under-cabinet kitchen extension kit for like £6 in my boot roof. I then ran the cable down behind the door seal and into the quarterpanel via the top turnbuckle clip thingymajabber (the buckle will just clip back in afterwards) and then on to the interior light, which I unplugged. This leaves two male tabs which you can just slide a female crimp onto and hey presto. Boot lights that are useful.

Have you got any pictures of it please mate? I'm looking for some 12v strip LEDs, but people want ridiculous money for them!

Have a look on fleabay for LED panels. You can either stick them on a flat surface or mount them, into a fitting. I've got a couple in my boot and I blink when they come on.

Just found some DRLs, surprisingly they are cheaper than actual LED strip lights. I think I will get a set ordered, but it's a 2-3week wait.
