Hi , i have a 1998 diesel ( old two wire brake light switch ) i have tested all the sensors and all reading 930/950 ohms , brake light switch working ok , cannot take it to garage to have it read as theres no t&t on it at the moment ! so the only thing i can put it down to is a failed abs pump !! going to try another this week and see if that cures it !! ao if anybody local to hull has a spare to try it out or to sell me ! p/n is srb101230 !!

Newbie Freelander owner here, found the site a lifeline already - convinced I have the brake light switch problem, even though the garage couldn't get a reading on diagnostics. Found, for now at least, pressing down hard on the brake pedal seems to cure the problem. Will get under the dash this weekend to see if I can spot the switch.

Hi guys,got a new problem here and one that appears to be rare.Td4 engine has water in the engine oil.I have checked all the usual,head gasket ,oil water cooler-heater and have not yet found a cure,any ideas guys.A local claimsn he had a similar issue and the block was cracked ???
 
I had the 2 amigo's for last 2 months on and off mostly ok, just occasionally on. I put contact cleaner spray into the switch on Friday. Then went green laning on Sunday. It was worse. Lights on most of the time. I had to pump break to get the hill decent working to help with the mud.
So this morning I took the switch back off to take to bits and try again. At the same time I sprayed my tow bar 7 pin plug with WD40 as we did a few river crossings.
It was only after this that I thought - Could wet and muck in the tow bar electrics cause the 2 amigo's. I have seen some people report the wrong bulb in the break/lights causes this, so why not a semi-shorted tow bar.
Anyway - too late to try each individually now. So I took switch apart and cleaned and jiggled contacts. Put back together. On the way home I had no warning lights.
I think it is the switch that's fixed it, but just a niggling thought about the tow bar.
 
I had a similar problem with these waning lights showing, but when I realised my brakelights had stopped working, I checked the fuse and found it was blown. After changing the fuse (the second time in a week as the fuse blew when away last week) the lights went out and have stayed out (so far). Not sure why this has any bearing on these warning lights, but just happy I read these posts and noticed others have had similar problems. Thank you!
 
Update from my last post - The switch cleaner didn't work for long - it came back in a couple of days.:mad: So bought the replacement switch and wiring loom and fitted it over a week ago. Not had the problem since.:)
Mine was just the 2 amigo's (TC and hill decent warning) and the break lights did still work on a 53 plate freelander 1 not-facelift.

Hi,

My orange decent light occasionally comes on. Goes off if I switch off and re-start.
Is this the same problem or another?

Hi All, I also have all 3 amigos on my Freelander 2000 TD which started after a brake pad change. I had the pads on the front wheels changed as they were screeching a lot. Then after driving about 10 miles I heard a grinding noise and I could feel the brake pedal ticking. The 3 (TC, HDC, ABS) lights came on - and sometimes go off for a few moments after switching off and on, but almost immediately the pedal ticks and on they come again. Brake lights are working fine. Is it just a coincidence that this happened soon after a brake pad change or is it something the garage mechanic might have altered or broken ? Not sure if it is worth going back to get them to check it again .......
 
I had the 2 lights pop up momentarily on the way home the other day,
never seen these before while driving, so I guess it is an early warning,
so rather than wait for someone to run into the back of me to confirm
the intermittent break light function,
I purchased the parts marked on the first post from Rimmer Bros,
Switch (XKB500120)
Convertor Harness (YMQ503280)

cheaper than e-bay strangely enough at £27.04 for both parts delivered,
they took only a couple of days to arrive, changed them today,,
all good brake lights working, and hopfully no more Amigo's

Hi All. I'm new to the forum and fairly new to Land Rover. I have a 56 plate Freelander 1 and am having the same problems with HDC & TC lights permanently on, and no brake lights. Being totally useless with anything mechanical, I can't find where the brake light switch is located! Can anyone help???

Being almost totally useless at these things myself mate,
I can tell you it is the easiest thing in the world to do..

If you look above where the brake pedal is from the foot well you can see the back of the switch, twist it slowly with a slight pull and it will come out, just push the new one in and twist to a stop and all is done,,
don't forget to plug the wires in though..

If you go back through this thread then you will see pictures of what it all looks like..

Excellent result! Got a switch from local Land Rover specialists for £10. They even fitted it for me for an extra £10. All is now well! :pop2:
 
I`m also having trouble with the 3 amigos my clutch failed so had a new one fitted when i got it back the 3 amigos stayed off for a few days then came back on i changed my brake switch, the new one failed so put the old one back in brake lights work but still have the 3 amigos... I`m wondering if its the ABS sensors or speed sensor!! any ideas??
