If we were to have heavy snow and had an accident, could an insurance company refuse to pay out by saying something like "the conditions were unsuitable for driving".

Also, where would you stand if you had an accident on a road that had been closed by police, highways etc etc due to heavy snow?

what you have to decide is weather the journey is necessary or a joly in the snow.if its a jolly in the snow and you get stuck and rescued your a Knnnut...

Youd be a dick to be on it. No you wont be insured-mainly cos ya breaking the law.

ive been waved through closed roads by the po po cos i was in the defender and would make it...

some times closed roads are passable,

as yer say tho uninsured nodoubt...

A long time ago i had an accident towing a trailer when i shouldn't have been. I was panicking a bit because i thought the insurance company would try and squwerm out of it but they didn't.
Maybe that part of the "risk" they quote for covers the driver for being an idiot aswell, and part of that high price of insurance is covering the meare risk of stupidity, like driving on a closed road.

Im gonna phone nfu (my insurance company) and get a proper answer. will let you know.

I would say if the road is closed you are pushing your luck. I don't think it's illegal, but I think the insurance company could use that as a get out of jail card.

In all other circumstances I think you would be covered. The main reason is where do you draw the line? Is one inch too much snow? Two inches perhaps? Three? I don't think they could refuse on the basis of snow on the road.
