Electric troubles

hi all!

its been a while since i post a thread and ive been doing searches on my problem but cant seem to find anything.

finaly found insurence i can offord with my 9 points and im resurecting the old girl back to the streets! i go to start the old girls an instantly have problems. ive put up a video on the thread to give you all an idea whats happening.

any help would be appreciated

Not sure how long its been sitting but it sounds like starters bendix has stuck and or bad earths. Time to get the hammer out!

Certainly looks and sounds like a bad earth!

Clean 'em all off and if you have a meter, check that they are all registering a dead short (0 Ohms) to the - ive on the battery between everywhere that there should be an earth.

Thanks for the replies guys. Done some work on her today. Charged her up fully an also hooked up dads disco. She turned over and started first time with no troubles. After letting her run for 30 minutes I turned her off. I went to turn her back on an she lit up fine with no problems, glow light went off, turn the key to start an I got the break light and the engin light, but nothing from the starter *scratches head*

Check the +ive connection from the battery to the starter motor solenoid, or run a jump lead from your battery +ive to bypass the solenoid.

If that works, then change the solenoid.

Ok so I tried the thing with the jump lead from the battery to the starter. Still got nothing. Maybe I'm not doing it right?... Do I put it on the pin where all the +I've wires go?... Or do I just touch the body of the starter motor?

The starter body is the starter earth - put the + lead where the other + leads are

connect the battery negative (-) to the engine block with a jump lead and try and start it off the ignition key , it might be an earth fault

Nothing happened mate. If you were gunna earth it where about would you earth it to? Just incase every spot I've chosen has been the wrong one. Knowing my luck it would have been

To a clean point on the engine.
I've looked at your video and there is current being drawn from your battery, but as the lights go very dim on trying to start it - id actually say its your battery.
If it jump starts ok - thats what it will be!

If you have got a multimeter put it over the battery (+&-) on the volts scale and look at the readings when you try to start it

I charged the battery full an the dash lit up properly. I used my battery along with dads disco to get her started. Gunna see if it will start. If so.... Im blaiming the battery for all this! Haha

finaly got time to look at the old girl. put dads disco on with jump leads. still nothing. im gunna give the battery a nother full charge and then boost it with the disco too, see if thats enough juice for her haha

My money would be on the battery. I would if possible go for a straight swap of the Disco battery just to test it. You might find a duff battery zaps the power when you try jump starting.
