I've just imported 1.8 Freelander 1 car from UK, and in order for it to be registered there has to be engine number seen physically on the engine but there is no engine number on the engine instead there is a aluminium tag on the engine with some numbers but they are different to those which a appear on the documents, can that be used as engine number?

Very unusual - I find it hard to believe that there is no engine number stamped on the cylinder block.

It should be on the front of the block next to the gearbox.

Singvogel.

where we thought it was, it was only a plate which seems like there are some markings & we think that it is removed. Is it possible?
I have taken the car to experts to check the engine number but they couldnt, what must I do because I am not able to register the car in my country without the engine number

It's stamped vertically on the front face of the cylinder block, on the gearbox side below the top hose water outlet.

@Freelaner: it seems as if it has been removed because there are markings on the place where you are saying we should check. On the documents we have seen that the engine was replaced

Sometimes factory reconditioned engines had there old number removed and replaced but I've not seen it done for years!!

if the ally plate says genuine land rover part and then has a seriel number then chances are its factory recon, my 200tdi is like this and i use this as the engine number on my log book as i couldn't find one anywhere else.

What docs do you have that show the engine was changed?

Who changed it?

If you have a V5C which shows the wrong engine number it simply means that whoever changed it didn't amend the V5C by sending it to the DVLA.

This will be seen by most countries as very irregular - even if there was a legible but different number stamped on the engine block.

To have no number at all and evidence that the number has been removed / obliterated will be seen as highly suspect.

I don't see a way out of this without contacting DVLA - and obtaining a correct V5C, but you may have have already told them the vehicle is being exported and sent them the tear off part 11 - the V5C/4.

What country are you trying to register it in?
How urgently do you need to register it?

S.

The V5 shows the number which we could not find on the engine. We saw on the service book that the engine was replaced.
The country I need to register the car is Lesotho, Southern Africa

I reckon it's a factory exchange engine, LBB111740F being the part number. So presumably AAA S31102C5 is the new engine number.
