Finally gone "off-road"!

I have finally taken my Freelander off the tarmac; however, most of the tracks on Salisbury Plain are now all-weather surfaces and you could drive any car along them! There were one or two muddy tracks that were rather more challenging which were made worse cos I was following a convoy of tricked out Defenders!

Modifications I made to me car prior to "off-roading" were, err...pumping me tyres up and fuelling it up! The 17" road tyres worked extremely well but I wouldn't want to go too crazy! Some of the by-ways are just too much for a Freelander but all-in-all, I was impressed!

I'm hoping not to damage it! I might be tempted with some new tyres though! What are the green-lanes like near you? Gravel track or more akin to a ploughed field?

I go laning around Salisbury fairly often. Not usually onto the plains, but lanes like the Ox drove and others in the Donhead area. I would be happy to show you whats around. I run an almost standard 110, so you should be able to follow me for much of it without getting stuck. WLM is also in your area, but whether or not his disco will last the day is always a question

Seeing the vids on YouTube gives me some hope though, virtually standard Freebies going over incredibly rough terrain!

A Freelander is surprisingly good of road even if it's ground clearance is limited!!

your best bet would be to buy some 15" or 16" with a spare set of tyres on. Its all to easy to damage tyres when going offroad and replacing 17's arnt cheap. This also means that with a spare set you can have a proper mud tyre without them singing when your on a long drive

cant you hear the winch working :doh:

bit hard to use a winch rope as a strop when the other vehicle your winching off is stationary

thats cos its an uprated 8274 winch..

was only stuck on a ridge in the middle once over that it was an easy recovery

Freelander wouldn't have got stuck it would've floated thru and not touched the bottom
