HID Lights

Just fitted some 35w 6000K HIDs to the dipped beam, very impressed. I'm looking at doing the main beam too but can't decide whether to get another set of 35w 6000K's or 55w 6000K's.

Has anyone fitted the 55w version?

You beat me to it, must have self levelling and cleaning devices fitted, but it depends if the tester spots them.

Since it takes less than 2 minutes to change back to standard H7 bulbs, that won't be an issue.

hi again, why is it a failure??? i was looking at getting a h4 h/l bi-xenon 6000k kit for mine that i found on ebay, say's it meet's all standard's etc !!!

do appologise, was'nt aware it was an issue, just thought i'd ask, i'll go search now !!!!!!!!

They have to have self levelling and Cleaning systems. And be the correct lamps! So if you swap everything from a HID vehicle you're fine. Standard lamps give an incorrect beam pattern with HID fitted as well! Think after market kits should all be marked not for road use! Then there's the insurance issue? What happens if you have an accident and your lights are deemed not legal? Not insured??? Dunno
I put osram xenon gas filled bulbs in mine. It makes a worthwhile difference

Why will they melt the plastic? They run cooler than the standard bulbs.

Just what is wrong with standard halogen bulbs anyway.

you for got one thing the hids will melt the plastic lens

Thought that was more with 100 watt or bigger normal bulbs? Cos they generate a lot more heat?

I fitted HIDs to my BMW which had projector lights as standard. The cut off and spread was perfect but to be honest, I wasn't impressed by the lights at all and wish I hadn't bothered. I hated the 'warm up' period and for this reason alone would consider them useless for main beam. Unless things are different now? All my cars have Osram Xenons now and they're great.
