If only it were that easy. As far i'm aware it's dealer only for these. £$$££$

I think they cost about £140+VAT.....

I lost my key when I had an Alfa and managed to get one via an independant garage for a fair bit cheaper than the dealers. They recoded the new key and everything was sorted in about 30mins - although it did take 3weeks to get the new key posted from Italy!!

It may be worth trying an independant, but be prepared to go through a dealer.

There are places,I only had 1 key with my transit,Then a market trader told me of a place in Birmingham,Went there he cut me 2 more keys plugged a gadget in under dash removed all my key codes then inserted the 2 new keys and my original one downloaded new codes, took him about 2 hours total cost£70..I will have a look for his invoice and post on here in next day or two..

Unfortunately a transit isn't a freelander & most independents who can do most cars will initially tell you they can probably do it till they scan your key & their computers tell them it's a no no.

I know this is an old thread, but; Hi, I'm new around here. I have the same problems as most do, bought a secondhand freelander and only one key.

I found these:- High Quality Landrover Freelander Key With Id46 Chip,Car Key&transponder Key - Buy Landrover Transponder Key,Transponder Car Keys,Landrover Car Key Product on Alibaba.com

any reason why they wouldnt work?

Not sure if I'm being a bit thick or not, but how could this be coded to your car if you buy it over the net?

There you are y'see, thats sort of what I was asking! Where/who actually codes them? Do they have to be done by Landrover, or is that a big and very expensive scam (I think we might surmise an answer here)?

I thought, from what I've read around the net, that the dealer codes it to your car. So, don't pay £100+ for a key from LR, spend about $10, and achieve the same thing?

If it has to be done by Landrover then the company making these is going to have a very small market, so why make them if it doesn't work... If it can be made to work, I'll happily buy a few hundred and stick them on ebay!

When i bought my 98 freelander it came with 2 sets of keys, 1 set was original L/R the other set are clearly after market. I asked guy i bought it off and he said he got it off the net and had it programmed to the car, and yes it does work, both key and remote fob. Unfortunately there is no make of remote on it but it obviously can be done.

Anyway, back to the OP subject...! I have ordered a couple of these keys, I'll report back if I can get them working!

nothing like that at all and it was aimed at the new owner mojoke because if it had been my old one i could have given you the second set of keys but you are not the new owner of my old one so you do not get them sorry

Many thanks for the offer, shame not your old car! The car I bought was from a family in Devon who have owned it from new. I really would be grateful for a spare remote if you have one though!;)
