If you haven't already done it this would be a good time to clean out/ de-activate/by-pass the EGR.

Singvogel.

I'm new to this, so how do you acheive this goal? What do you clean it with?

I think cleaning will be the option I take, as my cousin, who works for a BMW dealer service dept, says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I'm happy with the perfomance of my Td4, and the mpg of 38-40, so I don't want to be too radical.

Thanks, Singvogel.:)

Hi CB

There is a whole post on this subject, explained in detail. I'm pondering on whether to bypass, but I shall definitely clean my EGR at the next opportunity.

EGR BYPASS

OK,

When you take the 90 degree bend hose off you'll be able to look inside the EGR - maybe you'll be lucky and its fairly clean.

However most folks when they see inside for the first time are shocked by the build up of crud - sticky gooey mess of exhaust carbon and oil fumes, blocking up a fair proportion of the diameter of the thing.

Usually the EGR is taken off and has to be scraped out with an old knife or hack-saw blade before finishing off with paraffin or oven cleaner. Some folks have successfully used their dishwasher not just for the EGR, but for the whole inlet manifold - but Mrs Singvogel would throw a fit if I was even to suggest it.

The EGR is a completely useless piece of kit - at the very least you should disable it - all you need do is take off the little braid pipe that activates it.

A big shout out for Gareth at Derby Performance Hoses....

I screwed up and ordered the wrong set on "The 'Bay" lastnight.... I baught the three piece set, I needed the two piece set....... :)rolleyes:muppet!)

One phonecall to DPH and all sorted out, and with Gareths help and guidance I got the T-bolts sorted too.

What a Gentleman! Thanks Gareth.

Just got my first dph hose , for the air intake , well you got to start some where ! the 3 hose kit is next , however i was told by the dph man that they now do a S shaped hose for the td4 , i am not familiar as yet with that hose , is it fitted to the turbo its self ?

HI

Like CB40, I ordered the 3 piece kit from DPH and now I realised that mine is an early TD4 and thus does not have the sensor. The order has already been dispatched and there is some urgency to the matter as the 90 degree bend hose is ruptured.

Does anyone know if, besides the extra £, will there be any problem with this?

From what I understand the 90 degree hose is the same in the three piece and two piece kits.

Get in touch with Gareth, and tell him what you've done, he may exchange the unsed remaining two pieces for the one piece...anyway, it's defo worth a phonecall, buddy!

Thanks. I hope it's just an extra part and everything else will fit. I shoud have checked first:eek:

I would give Gareth a call to exchange the kit, but the kit is already in the mail. Maybe someone here in Portugal needs the sensor bit :)

Yes he is a nice guy and good product bought T bolts as well fitted yesterday Now have to buy some engine cover rubbers as the old ones have perished :D

Hi , I am still waiting for my clamps , I was told out of stock! I will let you know size when I get them :)

Same, here only it was my own fault, I forgot to order them with the Hose ... der  !

I can tell you, I will have a good condition 70-90mm jubilee clip to clean, and a broken 'spring' clip after the new ones are on though!

Looks SO much nicer under the bonnet even with only the Intercooler hoses done.....

Might even post a piccy if I can find what I've done with the camera....LOL

Airbox hose still to go on........

Well done CB40.

Nice clean engine-bay.

You'll find that the hoses darken / discolour a bit with age - mine are 6 months old now.

I felt that the 'T'-Bolt clamp was only needed on the 90degree bend one where it enters the EGR by-pass.

I reckon that ordinary Jubilee clips are OK for the air-intake as there is no pressure to be dealt with.

Hi Singvogel

Love the product placement in your engine bay, by the way ;) how many bottles are in there??

'Product Placement' indeed!
There are six bottles stashed away in the engine bay in total. Some are not visible in the pic.
Carried them like that for years - none of them have ever moved, burst or leaked. :D

OMV Engine Oil
OMV Crystal Windsceen Wash
Millers Diesel Additive
Millers Antifreeze
