Whats that extra bit that you have on the front left, just behind the dipstick. The bit between 2 hoses.

I'm sure don't have that on my 2001 TD4!!!!

Nice hoses.......think I'll add these to my wishlist.....

Do you have BMW envy:D

Not at all. Not envy - it's more admiration. I've been stuck on them since a factory tour in the early 80's. The engine plant at Steyr is worth a visit too.

I do have a 528i as well.

As soon as I found out that BMW who owned LR at the time were going to fit the engine from the E46 320D I ordered my first Freelander. The combination of the Freelander adaptability and the TD4 are a classic combination.

BMW have still to manufacture a BMW badged 4X4 designed for off-road - perhaps if they did, and it was as good as a Freelander, and it was a diesel ----I'd probably get one.

Are dph hoses better than the ones available from simmonites?

do dph sell a hippo kit or are they bespoke?

I've no experience of Simmonites to compare.

Derby Performance Hoses are a small company who form/mould/bend the 5mm thick walled silicone in their workshops from straight lengths of hose. I visited them last Summer and they seemed pretty genuine guys.

Some other companies hoses are 4mm.

They do sell a kit for hippos - both 2 and 3 hose sets.

IMHO you don't need to have all the hose clips the 'T'-bolt type - just the one on the 90degree bend hose where it meets the EGR (or EGR by-pass) - ordinary jubilee screw-type are OK on the other joins as long as you use the wider 12mm ones.

Hope that helps, mate.

What pressure goes thru these pipes? Are upgraded clamps required?

No idea how much pressure in psi or things like that - but it's enough to blow the old rubber hoses up like balloons when they get a bit on the elderly side.

That's why it's difficult to find any splits or leaks as they only open up when you rev the engine above 2500rpm in my experience. I got my wife to rev up and I searched for the splits - couldn't find them at all when idling of course.

You need decent clamps as the silicone doesn't 'squash down' like rubber does.

The 90degree bend is where the oily vapour lies and if the hose isn't tight it leaks/weeps a bit - that's why I fitted the one 'T'-bolt there.

I also stripped one of the old original jubilees getting them tight enough.

Get 12mm wide stainless ones.

I like - I ordered...!

Roughly how long do these take to fit (an hour one saturday morning?) and is there anything important to look out for when doing the exchange?

Cheers guys, in antici...............pation

Hi there CB40,

A couple of hours on a Saturday morning should do it.

The jubilee on the outlet pipe from the intercooler is a sod to get off due to it's probably being fitted to the intercooler before installing in the car on the assembly line. Tightening the new hose is no problem as you can position it at a better angle.

I'm sure you've read about the 'T'-bolts - in my opinion only really necessary for the 90 degree bend one where it enters the EGR (or by-pass) due to the oil collection there. I also put a smear of silicon sealer around both ends of the 90 degree bend hose - just to be sure.

The hoses will need to be re-tightened a few times as they don't squash down like rubber.

I also changed the narrow jubilee clips for the wider 12mm ones.

If you haven't already done it this would be a good time to clean out/ de-activate/by-pass the EGR.
