Thanks for the advice I have received on here. Taking all that on board and with the buyers guide I have been shopping today and bought a defender Picking it up tomorrow and very excited, cant wait.

She (apparently this one is a girl) isn't new but is in amazing condition for her age. She has only done 75,000 miles which is apparently genuine . My car does more than that in 3 years.

I did all the tests suggested, blue smoke, chassis, bulkhead and rear cross member. I was allowed to take her out for a drive on my own, pulled really well, better than the Disco but then that was automatic. Went into low box and the diff lock worked. No welding had been done except a new rear cross member. The orginal stickers are still on the sides. She has come from a dealer not ebay.

I said it didn't matter what one looked like. But now I'm hooked. Ideas needed to pretty her up. To start with I think she needs some mud flaps, better tyres and a cover for the spare wheel. Any other easy to fit ideas.

Oh and she needs a name

Oh god this sounds like a post on Horse & Hound about one of my horses. Perhaps I should also have called her a new addition to the family

Hi, whats a body lift, is it a bad thing. It was never mentioned in the ad or by the dealer.

Where do I get the Landyzone stickers from definately need some of those.

Good point, but some nice pink seat covers and dice in the back window will sort that out. I also saw a few pink flower stickers in the car shop, a nice pattern on the bonnet perhaps

You think I'm kidding, a girl at the yard has had her range rover wrapped in pink paper or something.

Stick wih the tyres that you have. They will be fine.

Don't act on all the advice you will receive, otherwise you will spend a lot of money very quickly and then, in a few weeks time think why did I buy that.

I suggest you improve the security i.e steering wheel lock and pedal lock then just drive it for a few weeks. You will then learn what it needs, rather than just blinging it up.

For example, you mentioned mudflaps. OK if you're sticking to road use and easy going grass, but any green laning is likely to lose them very quickly. Good luck

Thanks, you are right, I have already been browsing ebay for junk to make her pretty. She actually doesn't need any of it for the job I want to do.

Extra security is a good idea, I was thinking of a good alarm system as that is one question I didn't ask.

Most of my driving will be on roads and on show fields (they do get muddy) but never had the embarrasment of being towed out by a tractor yet .

I do think the mud flaps are a good idea though. Towing out of mud makes a dreadful mess of my trailer without them. I particularly hate the dead worms all over the front

I would like some seat covers as well but the only ones I can see are waterproof which dont sound particuarly comfortable.

I did wonder about the tyres, as we are not doing long distance shows any more, so not so much road work, I might have some of the lumpy tyres (sorry limited vocabulary)

Also going to have to make some modification to my garage where she will spend the winter. I had measured the door clearance but forgot to take into account the up and over door lowering in a few feet

Yes, thank you, got one of those already, used it when we went away with the old Landy.



Matty is home on my drive now Our farrier was on the yard when I called in. He has owned and mended loads of Landies. He had a good look over her and thinks she is excellent for the year. So, very happy

Good point, I already have a Matthilda though (horse), shortened to Tilly, dont think she would want to share a name

I will just have to be Matty, not short for anything.

I found the disc lock so that is sorted, thank you.

I bought her a first present just now. Found something seriously lacking in Defenders. NO CUP HOLDER Sorted it now though

If your looking for good all round tyre when yours wear out or become poor on the grass an all round road, grassy fields, and ice you cant go far wrong with Mitchelin M+S and 205 R16 will be perfect as you need theat size to keep the gearing correct for towing your horsey box.
