yu miss the point, James - it is the design which is ****e. I can remember when the MLS Head gasket came out - it was supposed to be the magic bullet, but sequential HGF still occurs. read up on the K series design - its been posted up here a few times.
 
ive allways thought gasket went then overheated ,not overheated the gasket went ,bearing in mind theres more to move in them than tdi ,how many check liner protrusion before fitting new gasket
 
The k series as an 1100 single overhead cam wasn't a bad lump and the 1400 were not so bad, as the block rigidity decreased in the 1.8 the problems occurred.

This topic has been done to death previously and I have posted rover's own construction video in the past.
 
MHM as an aside, and i've searched but can't find owt, my k has more power since i fitted the prt mod.

Have you heard of this being reported in the past?

Seek and you will find covered in vast detail previously.

The head bolts into rail in sump and the rails are blamed, but the truth is the 1.8 introduced stresses and strain issues that the design couldn't manage.

Then again the RV8 people don't like to discuss recon service exchange 3.5 blocks dropping the liners and it was known about by GM, the liner issue in this is a combination of worn tooling and I reckon weaker mixtures as in 3.5 carb model it wasn't bad. IMHO

the later 94mm blocks seemed to cause grief and project iceberg was unsuccessful

innovative, excellent power to weight ratio that has never been matched but prone to premature detonation.

It's a miracle of Rover engineering
 
 
freelaner - possibly - if the engine is working more efficiently - but no I hadnt heard of it.

and James - I aint pushing - just I have heard this so many times before - it becomes a bit boring.
 
i might have disturbed summat messing around under the bonnet then...........you know caused an accidental good connection on the wiring perhaps :rolleyes:;)

dont want to seek i like conservations ,you forgot 3.9 was 200 thou wider liner put into same thickness 3.5 bore ,i did pull a lot of early 3.9s apart to prove the point in the early 90s and k series when they first came out
