I have been thinking of changing the front seats of my landy. But the cost of Landy Defender seats are mental. I was wondering has anyone ever changed the seats to maybe a set of seats from a car or something? If anyone has some knowledge on this that would be a great help

Also how did you get around the situation with the battery under the passenger seat

Cheers in advance

It would be worth doing a search first...

It is possible with a lot of seats, it would be advisable to find ones with relatively thin bases to avoid your knees hitting the steering wheel.

Most people seem to attach defender runners to the seats or weld a frame that mates the seats to the seat box.

There are lots of solutions for the battery box, either put a door in the side of the box, have the seat on a hinge at the front, use wingnuts so that it can be lifted out quickly or just bolt it in and deal with it etc. I'm not sure on the legalities of any of these methods come MOT time though.

Thankyou for the reply,

I have searched a fair few things and see the Scooby & Rover seats are high up on the chosen list.

With reference to the seat fixing they cant be any worse then the current ones haha the fact you can just lift them out. Un bolting them wouldnt be a huge issue but im sure its somehting i can solve at a later date.

It did concern me on the heights etc for the wheel. The reason im looking to change the seat is because the passenger side seat frame has broken slightly and need it sorted but was thinking is an upgrade a better idea

I have messaged a few on ebay already about them. I thought if its easy enough to take a seat out then if i do need to get to the battery it wont matter because i can just unbolt few bolts and boom its done. THanks for the help guys

I was told that a ranger rover classic rear bench seat fits quite well although I've never tried, only heard/seen in a magazine

Genuine Defender seats do turn up now and again at reasonable prices.

Ive just bought a pair of brand new 2012 Defender XS half leather heated front seats for £400 from a LR dealer.

Ive just bought a pair of brand new 2012 Defender XS half leather heated front seats for £400 from a LR dealer.

I picked up a pair of virtually new heated front seats about 3 years back for £50.

I also picked up a set of 3 matching high back second row seats for about £100.

But we all know that pikey aint a real mouse.
