Hi,

I'm doing full servicing on my cooling system, which obviously includes changing the famous P Gasket.

I thought I'd be laughing and in fact I was up until the moment when I got to the nut underneath the steering pump (the one that appears once the steering pump's been removed)

The bolt opened all right but the nut is not giving. I've even tried with a 2-feet wrench.

Is there a trick to get it open? I've basically run out of tools and ideas...

Don't just put constent pressure on it, if it sheers you'll regreat it. have you put any pentrating oils on there first, let them soak. then use a hammer/impact wrench

As well as above, try and see if it tightens a smidgen as that can help to break the seal.

Thanks, guys, I'll take it easy. Will put some WD40 on it.

@jamesmartin - now that's funny. I kind of knew that there should have been a bolt on the other side but I couldn't find it.

Do you think it would be easier if I tried undoing it from the bolt side?

By the way, I'm almost 100% sure it was not 10mm. I think I finally settled with 13mm or 1/2" bit - don't remember which.

WD40 is ok, if that's all you've got but get yourself some penatrating oil, WD( water-displacing) version 40 good for getting rid of water(lol hense the name)
Check out the 2 page spread in the LRM mag.
