no electronics by the sound of things...too difficult to get fixed ,basic engineering , just a car that moves but you can put thing into it to make it better and change it whenever you want and as easily as you want,whether by just knowing how to, or using a manual..good stuff and helpful nonetheless

ok in plain terms: less is more. no switches. no screens. good old fashioned Isambard Kingdom Brunel style engineering.hard as nails, works and does no more. But i cant imagine any new car will ever have that again. who do you work for by the way?

English it's not my a first language but one of many...dont worry about who i work for, this is becoming pretty much pointless...questions was to get you thinking and for me to understand what is needed and what is not, to get the right balance for a concept...someone said about a missus and a ladder, i consider that an idea

no car on the current uk market is like that. One of the simplest is a base model defender and the still ahve complecated electronics in the engine. I cannot see how a simple car would meet modern emission targets.

How about you reinvent the wheel, that aint been done for a while.
The field of "building engineering physics", which draws on old ideas and new, can address the issue. But a report warns that both the industry and academia are so far failing to produce engineers who can apply the concepts....
keep it simple and easy to fix, that's why so many land rovers are still on the road after all these years
I can't imagine using screens while offroading, I'd rather watch where I'm going, plus touch screens going over rough terrain, you'd have to stop to use em properly
I had a go with a range rover sport at Estnor, cameras to see every wheel bumper etc, but you can still need to watch where you going

which is a such shame but none of them a selling as much cars as they use to neither but they blame consumer demand
kind of sends the message that consumers are sticking with what they've got, partly due to recession and partly to overly complicated car design that costs a fortune when they go wrong.
DM87 I can see where your thinking is taking you but unfortunately its where the design team for the defender is en route to as well . It might be the right place for the youth of today but that is also based in a total lack of knowledge/experience of what works best in the offroad , overlanding vehicle world. Electronics are a weak point , in the way they are employed , as they are not plug and play , self diagnosing , for the very good reason they are a revenue source , thats why you need special access laptops/software that cost a fortune . BECMs etc are not a problem if they are cheap , which they are not , so you can carry a spare .The defender is just about there structurally but is being damaged by modernisation JMHO

Or maybe the Indians, they own Land Rover now and it's not unknown for aspiring new owners to try and tell the established design teams what the customer really wants
Alternately, it could well be a student working on an automotive design project, I had a couple of questionaires from students we had on work experience recently, they were about the same standard as the OP, if this bod is really working in either marketing or design engineerinng then heaven help his employer.

I reckon he is a tata office teenager who has never seen a defender let alone driven one on road or offroad and has no idea about what actually goes in to it and now you have suggested that you will start seeing tata E types and RR classics, now go back to the drawing board and draw a picture of a defender and there you go :emps1:

if you look at troopers and lancruisers etc they have box but its much smaller, they just design it so it doesnt rust wheras landrover plan on the rust and make it 3 times the size it needs to allow for it to be eaten away lol
