What make of lpg kit to fit?

HI GUYS!
Ok, been looking through the threads but still need advice

i want to fit LPG to a 4.6 '96 - '2000 ( not bought car yet so dont bash my head in just yet), and i know it has to be sequential.

but which make/supplier is better? or are they all as good as each other?

Whatever manufacturer you fit make sure that the software is available and that they explain how to tweak the mixture. Software and leads cost in the region of £35 but you save that by being able to tune the system yourself to your own requirements.

Blaze are not the cheapest. I think their kits run about £1500 and you can get a conversion done for that money, but who knows the quality ? If you do it yourself, you know it's going to be well fitted. Do a search for my post "gassed up" it details the fitting of a system to my 2000 4.6 Thor

If you do decide to fit your own equipment it is doable providing you follow the guidelines which are mostly common sense.

The major glitch is that many insurance companies and dvla require an installation certificate. Costs is around £150 for an inspection, and you may have to travel a fair way to find someone willing to do the inspection.

If you don't tell them then there could be legal problems, and potential difficulties if you decide to sell the vehicle.

If you go with the Blaze kit, they inspect the work afterwards and issue a certificate - assuming you've done it to their instructions.

thanks for the info guys.

I spoke to Richard at Blaze this morning and was quoted £2000 +VAT for supply, fit, calibration and full tank of gas. he will also store the vehicle for me in his hanger for approx £60 per month.

also had a quote from Birway garage in Willenhall, that was £2400 +VAT and Prins Autogas in Cannock he too was £2000 +VAT.

my restriction is time, i will only be in the UK for 2 weeks in May and need to use the car while there. Blaze will do the work after i leave and tore it, so no rush, and he can do a top job.

Dumb question but the main reason for converting to lpg is the fuel saving.
If you are putting the vehicle into storage why bother!!

the main reason is, i am moving back to the UK in November with my family from Venezuela. i want the car ready and waiting for when we arrive. saves hiring a car for 4 people and 7 suitcases lol.

i still have a couple of months before i come over to find a house, car and other things we need, but dont want the hassle of sorting and finding a car when we arrive later in the year

no legal requirements at all..

and dont bother fitting lpg...buy it with it done..you never get the money back in fuel savings unless you driving to south america ..

Emer and Bigas (Italian) and Stag (Polish) systems are being fitted much more these days and can be fully fitted for approx £1100 to £1400. The Prins and BRC boys look down their noses at these systems a tad but LPG systems have come a long way and these systems seem to be holding up fine.

And at those prices if you do 10000 miles a year you will soon get your money back and know you've got a well fitted system that comes with a warranty. Plus once you've spent your grand its forgotten and you just get the joy of filling up and not having to watch the pump hit 3 figures

What part of "has the vehicle been modified in any way" don't you agree with. This is a standard question on any insurance application.

If you don't tell them then they can void your insurance, driving without which is a criminal offence.

Below are quotes from UKLPG.

26. Will LPG affect my insurance? You must notify your insurance company if your car has been converted, or your cover could be invalidated. The only way to guarantee that you or the person you sell your vehicle to can get insurance is to ensure the vehicle is on the UKLPG Vehicle Register

27. Do I need to inform the DVLA? Yes - you must inform the DVLA and qualifying LPG vehicles will obtain a discount on the road fund tax.

Not necessarily...

My '93 Classic was LPG with no cert or not on a register, all I had to do was pay a one off extra premium of around £35-40 pounds to have it included on the Insurance.

Shop around for insurance you'll be surprised what they will cover....

Should have made my comment clearer.
To be on the register the vehicle would need to be inspected, if the insurance company will accept the vehicle as is then that's fine.
The point is you have covered yourself by informing them.
