How quick is this job

Ooooh, don't come in this bit of the forum much, feels a bit like church and I should whisper and be serious.

Somehow have managed to smash off the fog light button on the dash

If I bought a replacement, how easy a job is it for garage to fit it? We talking two min job whilst having your cuppa or we talking dismantle half the beast to get to it to fix it ?

Have loads of bits need fixing like that but I can live with them ask instead if there going to cost buckets.

So,2 mins or half a day ?

Dont the switches just pop out the front of the dash, swap wires and pop back in?

2 screws - unscrew
plug on rear of switch -unplug
push in pins that hold switch in housing -remove switch from housing
put new switch in
plug plug back on
screw back on
-job done

Really depends if the three screws on the top of the fascia are in place. If they are not then undo the bottom two screws and remove the fascia to gain access to the switch - they pop out forwards. If the three screws are in place then you have to remove the top of the dash - this is not difficult just time consuming as you have to remove the vents, end pieces and clocks before you gain release it.

In terms of the switch have a look on fleabay. I might have one although not sure if it works.

Can you upload a couple of photos to confirm exactly what we are talking about?

After having problem with the accessory socket on my TD5 90 and having the dash in and out about 5 times I reckon you can get it off in 10mins. Then it's as long as it takes you to fix the problem and another 10 to put it back on.

As for the switch itself.
Once you have that centre panel piece removed you pull the connector out at the back (there is a little clip to depress)
Switch out the front.
Do whatever it is you have to do and reverse process.

Removing the dash:
Screen hear vents = 2 screws each
3 on the top of the big piece of "stuff" that is the dash
A screw hidden behind the land rover decal on the end of this piece (passenger side)
Screws into each side of instrument "hood"
Same with the heater control by the steering wheel.
I think that's all of them, should the easily lever out.
As for the centre console piece, you will see 3 screws holding it in at the top and 2 going in from the front at the bottom.

Thank you for your help- think its fair to say that my reputation perhaps hasn't reached as far into the hallowed technical bits of the forum . In Anything goes I suspect that your very helpful steps would have provoked a comment - I fear that those steps are a little too complex ( taking off bath panel defeated me )

On the plus side- the fog light does appear to still work, you just need a pen to push into the smashed button to make it come on and off.

On the basis that it works and I can, after a fashion, switch it on and off, my plan is to leave it and wait til something 'orrible goes wrong that I have to have fixed

Order yourself up a new switch, chuck it in yer glovebox and the next time you catch one of us 'orrible lot collar us into sorting it......
