Advice would be easier given if you were to tell us what kind of RR you're thining about buying and wether you've found any examples online that the RR guys could have a look at for you.

Try asking in the Range rover section, those guys will happily get their butlers to type out any info you might need.

Tdv6? Don't do it, ther slow, **** on fuel, and sound crap

Get a v8 on LPG. You will get 23/24 out of a tdv6 I get near 30 out of LPG

Look at a few, get a feel for what's a good price and condition, look for gear box problems, try and get one that had a new box recently
