3 Amigos, check out my ABS sensor (pic)

3 amigos on.

After reading the codes I got a front offside abs sensor fault.

Took off the caliper
Took off the bracket the caliper sits into
Took off the brake disc
Undid the allen key and removed the abs sensor.

I presume the sensor should be smooth all over and not have a bit gouged out of the bottom of it?

Now this sensor was brand new and gave a fault after 10 miles. I presume that the wheel bearing has gouged this slice out of it ???

If i replace the sensor the same will probably happen?

Anybody any advice?

I tried an after market sensor on my TD5 once. It was an All Makes part and found that the sensor body was too long.
The toothed sensor wheel scuffed the end of the sensor and it didn't work for too long afterwards.

Binned it and replaced it with a genuine Wabco sensor and it's been fine since then.

+1 ^^^ the sensor must not touch the rotating element, unless is some sh*t replacement part.... put a genuine sensor and it will be OK.

Ok gonna buy a sensor, was speaking to the guy in landrover and he said measure the two and if needed put a paper gasket in so the teeth dont grind my new £100 sensor.

If that happens again i presume its a new hub.... and another sensor?

The hubs are equipped with sensors by new... but a proper new sensor must fit...u cant just put spacers under an unproper sensor cos u'll get "air gap too large" fault codes if u miss the gap with some microns.... and the hubs are all the same(they dont last the same according to manufacturer but dimensions are similar)

push in sensors should be pushed in till the touch reluctor ring .bolted ones should be fitted while turning hub to ensure it dosent bind,it it then damages sensor new bearings

Im taking a gamble with a new sensor.

If it gets grinded again ill have to go new hub with a sensor already fitted.

There is the chance that some small piece of debris intruded somehow in the hub between the teeth of the rotor and that ruined your sensor(just when the sensor was out for nsome reason)... otherwise it would have looked like polished. Unfortunately u cant disassemble the hub to see what's inside cos it's compact. It wont hurt to give a jet of compressed air through the sensor's hole before u put a new one

no not hammer takes more subtelty,but still didnt help reluctor ring is part of bearing ,and i must say much underestimated or apprecited member sierrafery
