I keep blowing the 15a blade fuse for my indicators, fuel and temp gauge.

When I replace the fuse the temp and fuel gauge works until I use the indicator.
As soon as I flick the indicator the fuse blows.

What do I do??

Thanks.

Which side indicator? Or is it any side?

If it's side related then the chances are the wiring loom in the front wings which are in the most stupid location ever, under the skin, between the wheel spat and edge of the wheel arch.

I have both of my looms out and running along where I can see them.

Disconnect all the bullet connectors (standby to repair or replace - or do as I did and fit them all with supaseal plugs and sockets) and pull the loom up from the bulkhead side, you may find exposed wires.

It could also be the bulb holders, or the loom running up the chassis.

If it is not side related then the problem is pre-switching. Do the hazards work?

It could even be the hazard switch.

The hazards do not work.
I am not sure if it is side related.

One thing that I did notice is that when I do apply one of the indicators the trailor light flashes on for the first click, then the fuse blows.
????

Could be a faulty hazard switch

Hazard wiring is a bit strange on a Defender compared to normal feed, stalk, relay, bub configuration.

Have Hazards only recently stopped working?

This same thing is happening to me. Will have to check the switch.

This link has some helpful information regarding this: Hazard Switch & Indicators - fault diagnosis - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

Thanks to TrinbagoMan's excellent link I went back and also checked the fuse for the Hazard lights. Sure enough that was also blown.
So I replace both the hazard and the indicator fuse and now everything works again :D

If it does blow again I think that will mean that I have a chaffed wire somewhere. we shall see.

Thanks again.

Mine did exactly the same last year.

everytime I used the indicator it would blow that fuse.

the solution on mine was:

remove all indicators, clean all the contacts on the bulb and the metal bit that screws into.

once that was done all was good and working, its worth a try on yours!

haaa, right, just noticed yours is working now.

Actually she did it again:doh:

No problem with the gauges as long as I dont indicate.

I will give them a good cleaning and see if that helps.

Thanks.

right! yeh do try out what I said then..

because mine was doing exactly that. I cant remember which, but if I think it was if i indicated left it was fine, as soon as I indicated right, the fuse would blow and gauges and indicators would be gone.

after cleaning all the contacts on the indicators all was fine and never done it again.

I had the same problem early this year. It was only when I turned left. And only after it had been raining.

Im pretty sure it was water seeping into the indicator. I bought a set of eight lights of ebay for about 25 quid and replaced the lot. It's been fine since.

Just got a call from my mechanic.
One of my problems is the rear indicator light connections are corroded badly.

He says there is a replacement kit availible for these lights that helps to keep them dry.

Anyone know where I might find them or a part #?

Thanks

WTF!

I got my Pumkin back from the mechanic yesterday all fixed.

Got up the road on the way home and NO headlights!!!

I tested them before I left the mechanic and the were fine.

Something has to be shorting out somewhere:doh::mad::confused::(

What a nightmare

Pumkin needs to sit on the naughty step!

Got to be a lose connection or dodgy switch - hasn't it?

Has the steering column stalk been checked?

Well I am still at it.

Dropped Pumkin to the mechanic Monday morning. No headlights, no left indicator and a long pause on the ignition.

Mechanic just called and says the dash has to come out cause he thinks there is a short there somewhere !!!!!!

So Pumkin will be there a few more days AGAIN!!!!!
