can anyone tell me if it is ok to run my freelander in two wheel drive only . As i have just replaced the ird unit . My thinking is it will reduce the strain on the transmission system , and might last longer .

Search Me what is that, is that like the quote button mr ocd won't use

Yes you can - remove the propshaft completely. It may wheelspin a bit in wet conditions though and of course will be rubbish off road. I did to my old 2.0DL before I had TD4. Lady week I took the prop off the TD4 to help diagnose what was turned out to be a rear wheel bearing and it ran quite well to be fair.

but i think the op is on about a permanent thing:eek:

Not a problem you can leave permanent - it makes a comfy car just not a 4x4 - probably nerd to tell your insurance company as well.

On my last Freelander it had been off for nearly a year with no adverse effects except it seemed to have a better turning circle ( don't know why bit it did) and was 4 mpg better. Also if you VCU has gone then you are wrecking back Tyres as well.

Depends what you want I suppose - my TD4 will remain 4x4 but the last 2.0DL was my wife's Mum truck - never went on anything other than Tarmac so pointless 4x4 but we liked the shape and carrying capacity. Shame then they didn't make it selectable.

deffo tell insurance company - if you have an accident it's not something you can put back while no-one is looking.

you haven't put your location, but if you're in Ireland, forget it as it will fail the Irish equivalent of the MOT without it.
