Part way through sill replacement

If you've been keeping up, you'll know that I am replacing my inner and outer sills along with the rear arches.

Now, using a grinder, gas axe and plasma cutter, I have removed all of the outer sill and the floor above, most of the inner sill, everything around b pillar and a pillar.

Now. The body mount at the front of the sill came off without hassle as there is a hole in the floor. The rear sill body mount doesn't have a hole in above so I cannot withdraw the bolt :doh:

How do I get the bolt out? I am just thinking of making a hole above but there must be a proper way surely? Same would apply if I were changing the bushes! Still, they will need replacing as the old one has melted from the gas axe

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

should be hole there unless its been welded over . check on new sill

It is the one that is rear of the sill. Where the floor plan angles up to get to the boot level. There isn't a hole there nor any welding

You is right That there int no hole but I think??? the bolt will clear the slope of the footwell as it comes up.

there was in mine! with rubber plug too

The rubber part of the mount is in 2 parts with the out rigger sandwiched between them split the rubbers apart you will be able to tilt the bolt as you pull it out and clear the floor

I've burnt the rubbers off with an oxy gun and then sliced the bolt in the end. When I put it back together I'll put the nut on the top. What idiot designed this thing

Still, nearly there. Just got to tidy all the cuts up with the plasma then remove all the underseal and paint then I'll be able to get the new sill in

Then there is the other side to do

Thats another way of doing it i suppose,, think i prefer my way.............don't smell as much , also you got to remember they got it in at the factory so it must be possible to get it out with out the use of flame throwers and disc cutters

One reason for putting the bolt in from the top is safety, if the nut comes orf the bolt don't fall out.

It can be doubled up to form a locking nut. I can't get the bolt and bits in. Just been trying with another mount so it will defiantly have to be modified. I'd have just cut a hole in the floor but the hole would be on the angled bit and I'd rather not wreck that bit :blabla:

Rain has stopped play now. Was out there tidying it all up ready for the new sill

Matthew that bolt should go in with the head up ,if you undo all the body mount bolts a little jack the body up slightly and move the bush , sleeve and washers,it can then be
angled over.I have just put a body lift on mine and changed the bushes had the same problem.

Or you could copy the front, cut a hole and fit a grommet.

cut a hole , put bolt in, weld plate over hole.
