more unreliable, more expensive to repair, harder to repair
How does the latest 2.4 litre lump compare to say a 300 TDI?
How does a harrier jump jet compare to a spitfire?
They are both great in their time but what aspect do you want to compare it in? reliability, performance, ease of maintenance, economy etc etc?
Speed of course![]()

Just shove some in the air intake cures all head problems......maybe the Gaylander boys should try it![]()

Can I line feed it to my air intake or do I have to keep stopping to add it?![]()
That is the down side you does have to stop to add it![]()

If I run my snorkel into my cab I could just take the mushroom top off it and then shovel some in as and when needed.![]()
Is it not poppers that the gaylanders like?
Party poppers? Is that to celebrate after driving through a puddle without the doors falling off?![]()
Speed of course![]()

I currently have a 2.4 lump and I have to say apart from sounding exactly the same as a transit van i think its brilliant. I travel motorway miles in the day and its averageing 29.75 mpg according to my phone app. thats travelling at 65-70 mph all the way with 265/75 BFG ATs on, plus it barely even drops when towing. I took a my caravan on a 120 mile round trip, and still got nearly 300 miles to 65 quid full tank ( usually get about 340 normal driving)
Power its brilliant, will knock spots off a TD5 (that I used to own) and thats in standard tune, my TD5 had been tuned a bit. overtaking is much quicker and safer, and if you really want to be a boy racer, it will embarrass most cars off the line! surpises people!
Reliability- no issues yet, although I think the EGR could give a problem in the near future, but by then itll be close to the end of warranty and it will be ditched in favour of a blanking plate anyway, more trouble than theyre worth!
Anti stall feature is probably the best bit, makes pulling off with a heavy trailer effortless and hill starts simple, dont even need the handbrake any more (which is good because theyve moved it a bit to move the transfer lever and its a bit of a pain to get to now anyway!)
Although I do agree with the maintenance side, i dont fancy working on this engine for a good while yet, it doesnt look anywhere near as simple as my 200tdi is, but such is the times!
