Hi,

Quick question.

Are 33 inch tyres too big for my standard v8 defender with disco transfer box (i.e. it goes over 100mph etc).

standard tyres are 235/85r16 and r 265/75r16. These have a rolling diameter of 32 inch. So will the extra inch cause a noticeable problem of any sort?

I've done a search. Just after some clear advise.

Thanks

Ben

Some 33s arent actually that tall, my old khumo kl71s were supposedly 33 12.5 r 15 but were only 31.5 inches high with 34psi and no weight in the back.

You may find it to be ok, a mate of mine has a 90 with a disco transfer box and his insas measure at over 33 inches tall when fitted...his still goes well :D

why would you want to go over 100mph in summit with the stability and aerodynamics of a brick:doh:

Just explaining what sort of transfer box I have because I'm guessing bigger tyres would be easier to run on a standard (shorter) geared defender.

I must say though... Although I'd never dre of doing it..... I'm sure it would be funny watching peoples faces as u roar past in a v8 defender lol. I doubt many would expect it.... :D

Im running 33x12.50x15

I have a +2" lift which is a bit saggy now.

The problem is with the width more than height, needed to adjust lock stops to stop rubbing, now i have the turning circle of an Ocean Liner :D

Im not sure what Rims ive got, Tyres n Rims came with LAndy when i bought it.

But the previous owner never adjusted the lock stops.

Any way i can check the offset?

Correct me if I'm wrong but 10j = 10 inch wide - j = rim height from the bead. 10j has nothing to do with the offset.

Check this out for further info.

fook knows the guy in westcoast 4x4 sells them an that's wot he tells me thay are 10j's or he sells 8j's an i either get 33x12.5/15 or 35x12.5/15 i just know he calls them 10j off set

yes on the road, little bit of rub offroad. plus they look a littlr **** as there is very little room around them.

I have 255/85s which are 33x10.5 roughly but on a 2" lift. if you want 33s get a lift also. your box only has the higher 5th gear, I guess it will be ok, because mine still growls at 70mph so your shouldn't have any problem. worst case, you need to change back down to the standard Tbox.

I have 33x12.50x15's on the 110 station wagon at the moment, they do fit with no lift but fully laden (halfords pro tool chest a tonne+ of logs and 100 litres of used veg oil the rears rubbed on the plastic arches on A road tight bends)

far better with a 2" or more lift

these are the wheels n tyres when on my 90....

90 did have +2" springs and +2" blocks and raised Roccia arches though

Cheers Steve

I ran 33 12.5 r15s for ages on standard (and very worn out/saggy springs) with no rubbing at all off road. although they never measured up to 33 inches on the vehicle.

turning circle was ****e until i fitted some spacers though so if you get some, either get offset wheels or spacers get used to 3 point turns :D

ebbadger, just out of interest, why did you use a 2" lift+2"block insted of a 4" lift?

Ur orange 90 is pretty much how i want mine to look, so you've got me thinkin now.......

because i got the 2" springs n shocks cheap off EBay :) , 2" blocks and 2" springs is a 4" lift LOL, if u mean 4" springs I didnt feel there was a point, same result and the springs gave all the movement i needed even on off road sites (scorpion soft springs)

also 3" springs are the most Ive found shopping around but if you know someone who does 4" + let me know as my next project is a little more extreme and short of expensive custom requests I havent found anyone??

Cheers Steve

Try extreme 4x4, i'm sure my friend had some +4 springs from them, they just don't list them on the website. They advertise anything from -2 to +5 or 6 in their magazine articles.

Failing that Devon 4x4, one of them will def do them.
