My MOT is due on 10th June, so im getting the 90 up to scratch now.

However question for you knowledgeable MOT bods out there.

If i book it in for early next week, and it FAILS can i still drive it until the 10th of June as thats when the current MOT expires.

Or is it from the point it FAILS no longer MOT'd

Cheers Sam

You can still use it - or if it passes you can get up to 13 months on the new MOT. I've always assumed it is designed to give you a chance to get it sorted before the MOT runs out.

I missed my 13 month MOT by one day - silly sod I got my dates wrong.

Excellent.

tis good for as my only transport so would need it to go and buy to parts etc.

But of course its going to PASS first time.:eek::p:p:D

If it fails on something that would make the vehicle dangerous to use on the road, then you can't drive it till it's fixed and re-tested.

Presumably every fail on an MOT is dangerous though? Otherwise it wouldn't be part of the MOT.

I thought it was as the others said, that you can drive it on the old certificate.

Ok,

So just to get this right.

You can drive it becuase you still have a current MOT,
However you cant drive your car on a public road with a Known defect
And Because you just FAILED an MOT it has a known defect.......

So the some total is, It must PASS :D

The MOT is a check on the condition of the vehicle at the time of the test,so a fail is a fail and means just that, also whether it has MOT or not it is illegal to use a unroadworthy on the road full stop.
I have heard of people booking an MOT in their home town and buying a landy of ebay with no mot miles away and driving it back hoping that would cover them if they got pulled,it would if the vehicle was in a fit state to pass the mot in which case why did the ebay seller not get it mot before the sale!

Nononononono NO you're only supposed to drive a vehicle without an MOT to your nearest MOT station, and only if it is pre booked and they have the reg no. and you also have to have insurance for that vehicle.

Yes that is correct, but the chances of you getting stopped are pretty remote, but its done at your own risk.

Also worth noting then that many insurance policies are subject to having a valid MOT certificate. So if you dont have an old MOT certificate that is still valid, you might get done for having no insurance.

when your vehicle fails it says something on the bottom of the fail sheet about a free retest if you leave the vehicle at the mot test place for repair.... so they expect most people to drive it away.... which is what ive always done........ if there is a dangerous defect youre given a specific warning that there is a dangerous defect and you must not use it till its repaired
we put all ours into the local garage in good time.... when they fail we have them back to do the easy bits then back to the gaarage for the difficult or crawl under bits and the retest...

not necessarily "nearest" but must be within a "reasonable distance".

200 miles is not "reasonable"!
