thanks guys,

I looked on the maplins site last night and i didnt see anything but i think ill pay them a visit tomorrow.

So i may not have a winch sorted for sunday as craddocks dont do a split charge system anymore.

Matt

Could just wire the winch to the main battery...

Or just fit that 2nd batt and run it in parallel. Just ensure you have decent 80ish amp cable running across.

It just means you'll use both at all times but will have double capacity.

i know what you mean, im just worried that ill flatten the battery one day and be f&*ked in a field somewhere. lol

Saying that im not going to be doin any winch challenge stuff so for the odd occasion that i do use it ill just leave the engine running i suppose???

What do you reckon? ive just realised that ive fitted this winch bumper and now i might have to take it off to fit the winch! oops!

Matt

there is before and after shots of the bumper, what a pain in the ass to fit that was!

Matt if you fail to get one from maplins try a shop called Hewards on the kingstanding circle.

822 Kingstanding Road, Birmingham, West Midlands B44 9RT

Tel 0121 354 2083

That stores got me out the **** loads of times when I've needed the odd electrical connector or part.

take it off?

I'm not familiar with defenders but can you not just remove the grill and if needs be nudge the rad back a smidge?

Heres a tip - you'd always leave the engine running anyway when using a leccy winch. In truth winches draw more than a battery can ever give anyway.

Plus, winch technique should be to 'drive assist'. You'd always use a winch to assist in recovery whilst attempting to drive.

The winch on its own, well, if you do the mathematics on current draw you'll find it isn't a viable option to rely on, on its own.

Just fit the fecker! you can always rewire it later if the need or desire arises.

Just fit the fecker!

LOL :) Im going to do it tomorrow. decision made.

im not sure if i can just move the rad back i have an intercooler in front of that aswell for the ECU remap! i guess ill find out tomorrow!

And the winch is a Warn one with the solenoid bridge which could be an issue.

just picked up my cb aerial aswell from a friend. cooking on gas now! lol

If it's four bolts for the bumper then take it off.

Otherwise the intercooler is only two bolts and jubilee clips I expect?

ahh, 90 mins and you'll have it all done

Oh, do we have an updated roll call for who is going?

That bumper was a pain in the ass to get on, id rather take the engine out then the rad then the intercooler and fit it that way! lol

Latest list i think is:

yourself
Me
Jason
4x4tom
alex (friend of 4x4tom)
funkykipper

Think thats it isnt it? did anyone message defender89? i know he said he wanted to come.

Matt

Big grin on me face :-D

New hose arrived today and touch wood it ain't leaked yet lol

Also fitted a new distributor cap and rotor arm so just the cb to install on sat and I'm good to go

Out of the above list are we all meeting at 8:30 at the pub car park?

Ill be there at 0830, meeting 4x4tom and his friend at tamworth mcdonalds for some breakie then we weill head down.

Does anyone have a td5 disco? i was just given an ECU for one by my local mechanic.

matt

cool i'll be there around 8:30 at The Redgate Steak & Alehouse at the junction of the A5 and A444

CV10 0RY

if anyone else is going straight to the Redgate let me know. I'll be in the carpark behind the pub as theres only half a dozen spaces right infront it.

Yes mate, I know of one.

sorry i wasnt exactly clear about what i ment! he gave me this ECU that came from a friend of a friend,. 2nd removed, cousins dog or something. He dosent know what to do with it but its been re programmed by some solihull genius or something like that. he took it out of his motor when he sold it, tried fitting it to another but because of the factory fit immobiliser the car wouldnt start. i wondered if anyone wanted to try it, ive no idea if its worth anything or owt like that! and i have a defender not a disco!

Matt

I'll be bringing a couple of mates along in my disco on sunday, one is going to be taking some video and photos so if you think there might be good chance for photo's just shout over the cb and he'll get out and take some shots and footage then I can post the pictures on here and put them somewhere for the group to download the full res ones.

That sounds good jason, ill also be bringing my GoPRO with me so that will record the day ill probably just edit that into a time lapse or a fast vid.

I'm thinking of a couple of ways to improve the water ability of my v8. Currently it has the square air intake box with the feed coming from just behind the headlight. I'm thinking of putting my cone filter on instead and making a splash guard infront of it. That way the air intake is higher up and further away from the front and protected a bit more but also be in more air because it seems quite a tight area where the bottle jack and air intake all sit behind the headlight. Also going to wrap the coil in a bag if we come across water. That'll be a 2 min job when I pop the bonnet to take the spade connectors offthe fan lol.
