No Timing Belt

So I called Land Rover Gatwick today to ask how much it would be for the timing belt and belts in that section of the car to be changed on a 2.0 litre XeDi 2000, W reg.

The lady rang and left a message saying that according to her computer my car has no timing belt!!!

I've confirmed on the Haynes manual and I was right! I do have one. As I suspected the valves don't just magically turn themselves in the correct sequence! to make the wheels turn.

Has anyone got a pic of that side of the engine or can someone tell me all the belts driven from the crankshaft, either directly or non-direct?

Not sure about the xedi, but the petrol had a timing belt, and the td4 had a timing chain, which doesnt need to be replaced. You sure its not a chain shown for the xedi?

No confusion, older L-series has a belt, newer BMW M47 unit has a chain.

I dont know about freelanders but the illustration you have posted is for the auxilliary/serpentine belt not the timing belt. Different things altogether,

XEDI has a belt the TD4 has a chain, it needs doing every 48K according to RAVE...

yep it has a timing belt, two in total. one for the camhsaft to crank and one for other end of crank above gearbox, does the diesel pump timing.

Sounds to me like the lady on service reception made a mistake on the vehicle model (probably used to dealing with TD4's rather than the older ones) but then the inclusion of a picture of the aux drive-belt routing is adding confusion to this discussion as it is a different thing altogether.

I have not dealt with my local dealers service reception for years (ever since they quoted me £700 for a Disco TD5 service) but at that time it seemed that an essential requirement for the job was to know feck all about vehicles:dizzy:

Its a soft ware package called autodata most smaller garages use it very usefull if you work on a number of different make's of car as i do. Quite expensive if you don't used it often, but you can get hooky discs..........apparrently

The trouble is your freelander is on a w reg

there are also early td4's on a w reg

you need to give them the VIN/chassis number as this relates to the manufactured vehicle not the letter on the plate
