Well, my gf lives near Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

She received a letter through this morning from Julia Bradbury (the one of Countryfile, which I took a liking to ) basically asking for support to close the green lanes in Derbyshire/Peak District. .

I don't know the full ins and outs of the letter just yet as I am yet to see it, but will soon study it and a scanned copy will be uploaded.

It is quite easy to counter argue this. I suggest contacting them. The fact of the matter is that without traffic, the lanes will become overgrown and over time they will be inaccessible. I know of many lanes near me where that's exactly the case. Some are not even accessible for ramblers, especially during the spring/summer!

I don't get why ramblers won't see it like that.

and take my dog for a walk down the lanes with Kate Humble

yep, a good few thousand over many many years, would take a couple of discos 30 minutes to do the same - kinda weak argument against the ramblers

well i thought id never have to admit it in public but i am a member of the national trust and i cannot see any decent solid ground for actually closeing any greenlanes anywhere but as for the ramblers and the damage they do is almost irreperable itll take years if not decades for kinder scout to recover probably with the hyelp of a few landy drivers from the national trust going up there to fertilise the soil to encourage regrowth of the grass and heathers
its fekkin sickening

are you proposing they tarmac a series of paths through such areas, or ban the consumption of fresh air and be done with the problem ?

im proposing that the national trust are ok in my book as they create and cater for both laners and ramblers and do go to some extent to provide hikers ramblers and the likes decent bridal and footways in many cases complete with dog **** bins

i just cant stand these goody two shoes twots that reccon the brittish landscape was created just for walkers many greenlanes were and are maintaned by vehicles useing them after all whats flatter a tyre track or the pitted myre of a hundred footsteps

most of the lanes i know of are as accessable as they are because of 4x4 vehicles and i fully back up the earlier comment that if people were banned from driving along such lanes they would become completely impassible by any standards

to keep these lanes open by any other means than driving a landy or 5 along them on a weekend would be in the hands of the national trust who to cope with this extra work would have to put my annual membership fee up form its current £75 to possibly £150 just to stay afloat if this happens i for one would be withdrawing my membership forthwith as i simply cannot afford it

all this boiling down to some jumped up tree huggers wanting evrything to themselves and by the way i used to go rambling hiking fell running mountain biking climbing and potholeing on my weekends but due to haveing a weak knee i cant do this anymore and still wish to enjoy the fekkin countryside so ill stick up fer the 4x4 drivers evry time thank you !!!
