hi guys, ive searched and read a few posts about the crank pulleys. basically ive got a 200tdi disco and ive come to do the timing belt. and cant get the bolt out so am open to ideas.
ive got the front pulley off with the 4 bolts and am now at this balancer thingy and the main bolt.
ive tried a strong bar on it while a freind had it in gear with foot hard on brakes.
tried air impact wrench on it
had it red hot with oxy bottles and tried both of above again
tried shocking it loose with a chisel on one of the bolt flats

no sucess. getting very very annoyed with it but belt needs doing desperatley.

use a socket and strong arm on the bolt. Pull the wire from the stop solenoid to prevent the engine from starting, wedge the strongarm against the chassis and activate the starter briefly.

Did my 300 tdi last week, bolt also very tight.Put wooden blocks under engine to stop breaker bar rotating-got in and turned key, landy lifted up-released key and repeated-after 2-3 goes bolt gave way.Did start the engine first to make sure battery was nice and lively.
Got this method from the forum-thanks guys

i use a 3/4 drive with T bar to chassis. block of wood under bar on chassis end to protect. disconnect fuel cut off as already said.
keep friends / kids / pets / valubles out of way......

dont have the locking tool for the crank as the starters always been successful.

i do have a (home made) tool for removing the damper pulley tho as i find these either slide off reet easy or are stuck bl**dy tight!

you've got that bit to look forward to........

dont **** about - get the timing tool kit from fleabay - about £50 - save a very expensive mistake, as others will testify ;).

Dan - alter yo userCP to show where you live - someone might offer to help.
If yu are anywhere near me, shout.

make sure you know which way the engine turns and your breaker bar is under the chassis rail and jammed right in... you may want to close the bonnet too..!

let us know if it works, and god help you when it comes to pulling off the damper! you got a hydraulic puller?

or do it for you while you stand and watch.

then its the damper pulley........

dont use the hydraulic pullers on the outside as it'll pull the outer off the inner then it'll be definately yagged.
(if it aint already from the boc spanner)

offers there.

I use one of these and a long breaker bar:

4x4 Store
