disco 2 snaking

I have just been away in my disco 2 td5 t reg and suffered very bad snaking over 65mph. The car has just been mot'd and tracked up any ideas please help

The handling on my TD5 was very poor and it turned out to be uneven wear on the front tyres. Even though the car was tracking ok, the tyres were messing things up. This was particularly obvious on cornering. I stuck the rear wheels on the front and all is well.

Some threads on the forums lately about cars handling badly after getting new different tyres for only 1 axle. It seems the TD5 needs the same tyres on both axles.

i agree with Andy on the tyre wear also get your tyres/wheels re-balanced can make hell of a difference.

Are you sure this wasn't just tramlining - in the nearside lane of a motorway?

As well as the above, check the airsprings are holding pressure at the rear.

Thanks for all the reply got a new set of wheels and tyres to go on and will see how it goes tho think pan hard bushes may be involved as get a clunk in hard lock

They aren't particularly hard to replace to be honest, provided you have a decent breaker bar and a reasonably large torque wrench.

Need a new pair of locknuts really. Set of polybushes, and you can remove the old bushes by burning the rubber out and then hacksawing through the outer sleeve to collapse it before driving it out. Some people swear by polys, some swear against em, so pays your money and makes your choice ;-)

Panhard rod bushes, just had the same problem. needed a set quickly so had to buy some sh.tpart ones, lasted 2 days greenlaning then nearly put us off the road on the way home, completely knackered! just fitted a set of poly's.
you don't need to burn them out, with the right sized sockets to use as a drift etc, they'll press out in a vice easy enough.

how long should it take to swap pan hards and cost. Have had lots of probs with paddock so will have to find somewhere else

i found out that tyre fitting places only balance wheels to the nearest 5gram (minimum by law) ask and make sure they do it spot on its like being on rails compared to usual me bro used to work at quick fit and i regularly used to go there on me days off to tinker with me landy evrything was for free exept helping out when they got busy

If you've got access to a decent vice and selection of sockets to use as drifts, you should easy do them in an hour.
Rather than put the metalastatic bushes back in, I fitted poly ones, these you can push in by hand.
