Defender TD5 Kangarooing / Acceleration problems

If EML light is on, it's very likely the Crankshaft Position Sensor as if it acts up, the light will go on. If it goes completely the engine won't start. Easy to replace, but buy a Lucas or genuine one as the cheap ones might break soon again. Also had the light come on on mine and it ran really...

    Rustproofing

Very cheap, a can (1 litre) cost about 5-10 euros, and you need 3-4 cans maybe. There are professionals doing it in Sweden, but it's not that hard to do yourself. I do it once a year, make sure it's clean and dry so best in summer. And then spray everywhere except on brakes. Most important to...

    Rustproofing

Here in Sweden we use Linseed oil which is amazingly good and easy to apply, just make sure it's dry and clean first, then it's just to spray it on. It eats the rust and has the benefit to give off a nice smell :).

Intermittent Check Engine Light and stuttering

An update on this. I replaced the CKP sensor. There was no spacer so I didn't fit one either. I have now driven more than 1000 kms since (did a long trip to Germany) and everything seems fine. Good MPG as well. I checked with a Hawkeye and there was a fault code from the Crank sensor but it...

Thanks! No, no oil in the red plug what I can see. Can I remove the CKP and clean it? Will of course replace it as soon as it arrives.

Intermittent Check Engine Light and stuttering

Hello, Some months ago I replaced my flywheel and clutch on my -02 Td5 Defender. Everything seemed to work fine and I've driven a couple of 100 miles since then. But recently I got the amber Check Engine Light appear and it stuttered a bit on low revs and on idle. After a restart everything...

    TD5 AC removal

Hello, I have a Defender TD5 110 Black Edition from 2002. My AC fan inside the cabin decided to start burning a couple of years ago. Managed to put the fire out but the whole fan / AC box was of course destroyed, but after having removed that and all burnt cables etc. it is more or less like an...

110 TD5 CCPU Fuel Pump replacement

Hi again, We managed to replace it this weekend. It took some patience to say the least, and a lot of cursing :). One problem was that when we looked at the new pump in its original packaging from Siemens/VDO, the flotation device had broken off from the main unit. Fortunately we could use...

110 TD5 CCPU Fuel Pump replacement

Yes, I actually did :). I didn't find any mention of any vent pipe though, and it looks on one of the pictures that someone just have a screw in its place. Not sure what it does and if it is needed as I can't see where the pipe goes. I do have a Webasto fitted but I don't think it has anything...

110 TD5 CCPU Fuel Pump replacement

Ok, we have cut a hole. I don't have the pump yet, but we tried to remove the old one. The fuel lines where easy but we couldn't find out how to remove the electrical plug without destroying something (will look at the new pump when it arrives). What did you do about the vent pipe? Mine is...

110 TD5 CCPU Fuel Pump replacement

Thanks, and thanks for the welcome! Very useful pics Five Pots. I will most probably drill a hole as well as removing the floor sounds like too much work as it is welded and not only riveted. And thanks for the tip with the seal, I will get one of these as well. Is it part number WGQ500020? I...

110 TD5 CCPU Fuel Pump replacement

Hello, I'm new here and registered as I have a problem with the fuel pump. It is busted and it needs replacing (the relay is working, but the pump is completely dead). I have a Defender 110 TD5 CCPU/DCPU. The problem is that it is standing in a park space, so I want to avoid having to try...
