Hello,
Some months ago I replaced my flywheel and clutch on my -02 Td5 Defender. Everything seemed to work fine and I've driven a couple of 100 miles since then.
But recently I got the amber Check Engine Light appear and it stuttered a bit on low revs and on idle. After a restart everything seemed fine. But the other day it did the same thing, the light goes on and it stutters on low revs but is fine on restart. I haven't access to a diagnosis tool unfortunately.
I have ordered a new Crank Positioning Sensor. I managed to break the cables to it when replacing the flywheel, but I bought a new plug and cable and it seemed to work fine.
Any ideas what else I can check? Was thinking going through the earth/ground points as they have all been off. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Insist on that CKP sensor's circuit cos only two sensors can bring up the MIL warning on a Td5, the CKP(crank sensor) and the TPS(throttle position sensor), the stored fault code would be relevant though... isnt there oil in the ECU red plug?

Thanks! No, no oil in the red plug what I can see. Can I remove the CKP and clean it? Will of course replace it as soon as it arrives.

An update on this. I replaced the CKP sensor. There was no spacer so I didn't fit one either. I have now driven more than 1000 kms since (did a long trip to Germany) and everything seems fine. Good MPG as well. I checked with a Hawkeye and there was a fault code from the Crank sensor but it hasn't returned after I cleared it.
So all fine I think, and thanks a lot for the help!
