    10 years after

So it's coming up on the 10th anniversary of me buying the defender and using it as my daily driver. This is what I've learnt over that time. I'm an idiot. Or rather - I'm a a masochistic idiot. I have singularly failed to provide my wife with any sane reason as to why I drive it. Why do we...

    French CT and EGR removal

Has anyone yet gone through the new tougher CT with their EGR removed? Got mine coming up in a couple of months and whilst it has passed the last few times with the EGR removed I'm wondering if this could cause me a problem next time.

If you get stuck in France

I have a copy of the Haynes manual translation of all technical terms from English to French. I'd post it but I'm not sure what the legal implications of that would be even though it doesn't say "copyright" anywhere on it, so if you need it then best to pm me.

    Arrggh - lost my keys!

After tearing the house apart and visiting everywhere I could think of I had to admit they have gone for good. So I got a new Landy key cut but it won't work without the key fob to disable the security. Does anyone know a way round this? If you do could you PM me the solution rather than post it...

    French driving.

Ok it's holiday time coming up so I thought it might help to share some of the things I have learnt about French driving that may help anyone coming over here to have a more pleasant holiday. This is not anything to do with highway code or law, just personal experience, having lived here for a...

    fickle

Today is an “ I hate the bleedin' thing day” It's too slow and noisy and it leaks and steams up all the time so I can't see out. I have to use a squeegy on a pole to wipe the inside of the side back window when I pull out at any junction on an angle. The steering wheel is on the wrong side so...

    Buzzing fuel pump when freezing

With winter approaching here's something that may help someone. A couple of years ago whilst in the Alps in Winter when I started the TD5 in the morning the fuel pump would buzz loudly for the first couple of miles and then settle back to running normally. I was advised by Perfectland in...

    My TD5 misfire and cure

Just in case anyone else suffers the same thing here are the symptoms and the cure for what happened to me. In July 2003 TD5 misfired throughout journey home. Change in engine sound, down on power and serious vibration but it still got me 20 miles home. Checked for oil in Red plug to ECU but...

water water everywhere but where's it coming from

After the other half had finally had enough of getting half a cup of water on her knee the first time I put the brakes on after setting off I decided to try and stop the water leaks. The water on the knee was solved by sorting the seal round the passenger side alpine window which had lead to...

wiper park failed again - anything to check?

Firstly the search function works and thanks to those who advised changing the park switch when the wipers fail to park and intermittent wipe stops working. I did this and my wipers worked fine for 24 hours but now have the same problem again. Obviously I could be unlucky and have bought a duff...

Actual MPG results after EGR blanking

I had heard some interesting claims about how much the mpg would be improved by removing the EGR valve and changing the air filter so I thought I’d measure before and after on my 2003 TD5 90. The mileage was noted after using at least three quarters of a tank, all driving on road, same local...

    Intro from Brittany

A Quick Hi, Been lurking the site for a few years and thanks for all the info and a few laughs as well. I have a question I couldn't find an answer to so it's only polite to introduce myself first. Had my 2003 TD5 90 for about 4 years now bought as a toy as the third car in the family when I...
