    Starting diesel

Just a quick update on this. I went over the basics and it was a combination of a broken heater plug and dodgy wiring. not allowing a good connection. New glow plugs and relay and it is starting as it should.

    Starting diesel

I will check out the pump and in the meantime continue with full throtle. Its at the end of a list of fixes much more troublesome.

    Starting diesel

Yes the older engines I agree, thats how I started them too but the 12J was different.

    Starting diesel

Hi there, I have a nas 2.5 diesel 12J in my series. My query is it needs full acceleration to start it. I have had a few of these in the past and never touched the accelerator till it fired. Any idea why it would do this. It seems to run well otherwise. Billy

    Brake fitting

Thank you for that, my last series three had the 10 inch sls dual circuit with servo, and stopped ok. I am hoping to get really good brakes so I will set up with the spares I have and the tls and dual circuit and see how she stops. Many thanks for the insight.

    Brake fitting

Yes, its a can of worms. I have old spares so am going to convert to the swb tls set up. I have done everything I can to get the original set up to work well. Thanks for the advice.

    Brake fitting

I have a brake master cylinder with servo, single line from a lwb and was hoping to fit it to my swb 2a. Now the brake fitting is different. My question is what size do i need? Dont worry I will be testing it rigorously off road before venturing on road. Billy

Can’t think of another word for it so ‘shuddering’

If you have FWHs surely your front prop wouldnt get much use and shouldnt wear. Sorry I cant offer a solution but I find parabolic springs are hard on the rear propshaft. My last series went through 2 in a couple of years. It was a daily driver and did quite a few miles. I always changed ujs or...

    Dodgy Brakes

Just wanted to update on this thred as I finally got round to doing the work. New master, slaves, adjusters, flexis, shoes and a couple of brake pipes that sheared. To be fair all the components I took off were pretty good. Anyway brakes were just as poor. Rebled and adjusted master cylinder...

    Dodgy Brakes

No, I am comparing them to my previous series vehicles, plus my Gipsy, I have driven series vehicles from new. I know their abilities and limitations. This vehicle has poor brakes.

    Dodgy Brakes

Thanks for all the comments, they tally with my own thinking of replacing as much as i can afford to with new parts. There are some strange wear patterns on the shoes so that was the reason for my question. Two servos came with it so I might fit one. The chap I bought it from had been told the...

    Dodgy Brakes

I have bought a swb 2a soft top and am really pleased with it. But the brakes are very poor. A quick looksee shows it has series 3 hubs and 2a drums. Could this cause a problem or are they compatible. Its a single unassisted system.

    P38A Lost keys

Thanks for that, the car had two keys, one for the door and one for the ignition and neither worked remotely. So I think it has been messed about with in the past, just looking for the cheapest practical option.

    P38A Lost keys

OK, so I am having a few problems with the P38, mostly of my own making. I am thinking of buying a second hand ignition barrel, key and door handle. Is the ignition barrel common to all models? Mine is a 99 2.5 diesel

    Mystery diesel leak

Sorry for the late reply, just had a chance to look under. It seems to be the pump and possibly a fuel line. The diesel is finding its way along the sill and out at the wheel arch. Its getting quite bad now so off the road till I can fix it. Still cant understand how its getting along there...

    Mystery diesel leak

First post here, I sold my series a few years ago and recently bought this P38 turbo diesel 1999 coil sprung conversion. Anyway it has more bodges than most series I have seen . So I am working my way through basic servicing and getting to know it. I have diesel dripping from the rear wheel arch...

    2.25d with disco diffs

My SWB runs quite well with the higher ratio diffs. It has the 2.5 nas diesel. I think the 7.50 tyres with the the overdrive is probably the better option. But why not stick a diff in the back and give it a try. Also it is a pain filling the diff through the breather hole or in the end of the...
