Engine removal for oil leak repair

I have been known to work on my Landy here and there. I wiped the windscreen down last week, so I'm learning fast. Photographs I am very good at, so I will take some snaps and post them here and see what all you brainy blokes think then.

Engine removal for oil leak repair

Bargaining tools are my speciality, don't you know. ;) My cakes get put to good use too. I baked one for a friend once and it lasted him ages I'm proud to say. Last time I went round he was using it as a paper weight.

Engine removal for oil leak repair

lol, I'm a Dumb Brum female. I think perhaps the garage saw me coming! I inherited my Landy from a lovely old lady who belonged to the horse and green wellie brigade, cos I used to help her. She was still driving this vehicle well into her 80's with me aiding and abetting and drove it the...

Engine removal for oil leak repair

Nothing against young mechanics by the way, everyone has to learn. Even the older more experienced mechanic at this garage was saying the same.

Engine removal for oil leak repair

I think what I need is a guy or garage who specialises in old Landy repairs in my area (Warwickshire). I have just come to the conclusion that general modern garages with (mostly) youngish mechanics are just not experienced enough to tackle a classic Landy. Anyone in the Warwickshire area who...

Engine removal for oil leak repair

Thanks, that's interesting. So anyone know when they did start doing turbos? Without looking at our documentation just guessing its 1986/7/8. Its an old E reg Defender 90.

Engine removal for oil leak repair

Ah, so are you saying the engine does need to come out because its a turbo? Sorry to sound dim here. Or are you firmly saying ONLY a rear crank oil seal leak would need engine to be removed?

Engine removal for oil leak repair

Hi, sorry if this has already been asked, but I have been told that to repair the oil leak on my 1986 (ish) 90, the engine would have to be removed and the cost would be around £2,000 and perhaps more than the vehicle is worth. Is this true? Its a turbo leak apparently!

What have you done to your Landie today.

I've paid some guy to clean and wax it while I made endless cups of tea for him in between standing with my arms folded watching him work.:o

New lease of life - the benefits of 'lurking' on Landyzone

I'm doing alot of lurking at the moment, trying to find out why my old E reg Defender 90 (named Olive) is leaking so much oil all over my driveway. I believe oil leaks are common but how common and what is the most common cause of them? I might even have to start a thread on this to get...

    Hello newbie from Southampton

Freda! How lovely. Sounds like a grand old lady. Thinking of naming my old Landy Olive because she is a very oily vehicle, usually all over my driveway.

I'm a Newby with an Oldie

I might even get the oil leak fixed before deciding what to do, you know to keep its value up. I might get £3 for it then. But honestly, I think the oil leak could be a big job. Not sure why its leaking but all the Land Rovers roundabouts my neighbourhood seem to leak all over the driveways...
