I have been known to work on my Landy here and there. I wiped the windscreen down last week, so I'm learning fast. Photographs I am very good at, so I will take some snaps and post them here and see what all you brainy blokes think then.

Nothing against young mechanics by the way, everyone has to learn. Even the older more experienced mechanic at this garage was saying the same.

Thanks, that's interesting. So anyone know when they did start doing turbos? Without looking at our documentation just guessing its 1986/7/8. Its an old E reg Defender 90.

Ah, so are you saying the engine does need to come out because its a turbo? Sorry to sound dim here. Or are you firmly saying ONLY a rear crank oil seal leak would need engine to be removed?

Hi, sorry if this has already been asked, but I have been told that to repair the oil leak on my 1986 (ish) 90, the engine would have to be removed and the cost would be around £2,000 and perhaps more than the vehicle is worth. Is this true? Its a turbo leak apparently!

I've paid some guy to clean and wax it while I made endless cups of tea for him in between standing with my arms folded watching him work.:o

Freda! How lovely. Sounds like a grand old lady. Thinking of naming my old Landy Olive because she is a very oily vehicle, usually all over my driveway.

I might even get the oil leak fixed before deciding what to do, you know to keep its value up. I might get £3 for it then. But honestly, I think the oil leak could be a big job. Not sure why its leaking but all the Land Rovers roundabouts my neighbourhood seem to leak all over the driveways...
