    Previous owner didn't have a clue !!!

Yes I have come across silicone used in cars, My experience is that it has the effect of holding in the moisture encouraging rust! One of the holes for the seat on mine looked like it was drilled using blunt side cutters

    Wave Etiquette

Used to drive a mini and same thing applies! But then I have heard that its the same for 2CV, VW camper and VW Beetle. Its a mutual respect for choosing the same type of car!

    Previous owner didn't have a clue !!!

My Disco has a patch 25% welded the rest covered in mastic to make it look all done, lots of filler over structural welds to fill in the gaps. near side sill completely replaced with 5mm wall thickness box section! is that a common thing?

    Steering Guard Steel or Aluminium

I suppose it depends on the camera you use to take a photo of it! You can pretty much do anything with an angle grinder, its not so much a question of if its up to the job, its a question of have you got enough disks! Oh and you'll get black snots after too!

    Steering Guard Steel or Aluminium

I am thinking of putting a steering guard on my Disco 1 and cant decide if a heavy steel one or a lighter more expensive one is the way to go, some have suggested that a rigid steel one will transfer stress to the chassis while the aluminium one will deform either sacrificially or be bent back...

its hard to say for sure how they are testing the handbrake, I have left it with them to check repairs etc which may be today or tomorrow. I didn't actually get to speak to the actual tester as yet.

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

Its a local garage with a reputation for ripping people off. It has been taken over by someone who approached me and asked why we stopped using, I told him all the reasons and he is bending over backwards to help. He is also doing a 3.9ltr V8 conversion to an F reg 90 so has that going for...

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

I'm going have to recount what I said previously, to test the hand brake they use a "decelerometer" during a road test and pull handbrake on. this then measures declaration thus testing the hand brake. That said he was still previously very vague on the phone and I am always weary of garages...

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

Well we'll see, I called up the MOT place after I got it back and asked how they test a trans mounted handbrake and he said they have a special device they use, I asked do you do a road test on an incline? he then went on in a vague manor to talk about a device they put in the car on the road...

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

No it doesn't open its an extension to the roof, someone else suggested it might be to increase the capacity to allow it to be classified as a van for tax reasons in Netherlands. Having done a fair bit of work on it now it seems to be a very well maintained truck. My MOT tester has stated...

Might be intended as a light hearted comment but in my opinion this is the kind of xenophobic intolerance which should be saved for face to face banter not posted on an internet forum about vehicles.

thinking of putting a 6.5ltr diesel in it making it a soft top and selling to Canadian's they love them and will pay thousands!

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

Thats the best suggestion to the roof box and I would say most plausible. I bought it from JSF in Norwich he took it in to sell or break it. I make accessories for defenders and needed a development car this is ideal, I didn't go out looking for a left hand drive petrol but I like its...

Its an age related plate issued when the previous owners imported it at least 5 years ago.

    1984 Defender Hurricane! Dutch

It does have a lock on the bonnet and I am pretty sure it has a replacement front from bulkhead forward as inside engine bay is green, wings bonnet etc are also green where paint is chipped, the vinyl's on the wings are slightly whiter too. This would explain the lack of side vents if front...
