The 'noise' I had/have is audible from a cold start so Im sure that's an exhaust chuff from somewhere (maybe a split manifold?) but as yet I haven't looked. After noticing the slight gap I've kinda walked away from it in disgust!!!! toys, pram etc etc

Well the head gasket blew on that bank at end of 2013. So I stripped heads off and had them skimmed. Rebuilt engine and all was well again, but then end of 2014 the same gasket failed in exact same way. It has always had a exhaust pfft which I have yet to find the source, but taking the heads...

So i'm just looking at my D2 V8.....read up alot on slipped liners etc and so forth but cabt make up my mind if my engine shot! Can just about feel the slightest of lips with my nail, but its all 4 cylinders on drivers side bank. I havent checked other side yet but am wondering if thats the way...

Sounds like you got out in the nick of time (no pun intended) but if you can get pics on here and landywatch of the offending vehicle someone may know where they are?!?!?

Sounds like you are seeing the time the piston doesn't travel. You need a timing disc and pointer, mark when piston first reaches TDC, starts to leave TDC and the centre of those 2 points is true TDC.

Ok so the turd I have bought seems to have a fairly new rad in it, but it is leaking between the plastic header and the core......I was thinking dose it with K-Seal but not sure if that will seal that sort of leak??? I don't really want to spend any money on it if I can avoid it as its a temp...

So I just picked up a N reg 4.0l V8. Its ok, front brakes were non-existant and caliper slides seized up......but the muppet has peeled the headlining off the backing board, how hard is it to remove the fitted board now? Is it really just a case of removing the pillar trims and out it drops??

When you say you engine was 'tapping' is that the liner sliding up and down the bore when the engine gets warm or what??? Mines just popped the 2nd head gasket in 6 months. It was making a tapping sound which I took to be the HG leaking, the centre 6 head bolts had come loose so don't know...

If you sit there when its warm, out of gear does it hesitate when you rev it up?? If so then your MAF is dead, mine has a duff lambda sensor and does similar mileage to yours but at least I know the problem!

With the recent spate of thefts Im surprised more of you aren't fitting proximity sensors?!? I have a Toad ai606 on my mini, tilt and motion sensor as well as proximity........go within 18" of it and it beeps to let you know its seen you. Stopped the thieving towrag syphoning my fuel!!!

115k on a V8. Did head gaskets at beginning of year but now it looks like it not firing on 1 cylinder again........ :mad:

Sounds to me like the cam timing is out......
